A take on Kings Place

Not looking good for the mall in general, which is a same. From the comments and just in general, it sounds like most of the problems basically come down to mall management. Especially if the Ownership doesn't like that it is a bus hub and keeps the hours so tight so businesses can't take advantage of the bus cycles.

The producer says they'll have a video on Brookside mall this week too.

Speaking of buses, FT has announced a new route, starting the 22nd.

300CW/300CCW Campus Connect is a southside loop connecting campus, the hospital, the Regent Street malls, Prospect, the Highpoint Boulevard area, Wilmot Park, and downtown. Same 30-minute peak intervals and 1-hour off-peak intervals as other routes. Since it's serving Highpoint, 13S won't go down that way any more.

They mentioned this is part of a phased transit expansion, so we may see more improvements before the year is out.

The planned bus route has it going on Sami Street, and Golf Club Road. They opted to put in service before than can access Golf Club Road. I am not sure if they will keep going on Woodstock Road once they go on Golf Club Road. The original plan was to have it go on Waggoners Lane, Dundonald Street and Beaverbrook Street.

You can see the original planned route on page 46 of the Nov 3rd, 2025 Open Budget Meeting: https://pub-fredericton.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=22302

Is Fredericton's tallest building still the NB Power/BMO building? Now with these new condo/apartments going up?

Interesting tax increases in the newly-annexed areas, 0.05 or so in all of them... same increase they saw in 2025, 2024, and 2023. Gotta wonder if this drives any local discontent, especially with Nashwaak (excluding bewilderingly highest-in-province Stanley area), Central York, and Sunbury-York South having substantially lower taxes, and the Capital Region RD being even lower.

FWIW, I had no clue Oromocto's rate was so high.

Running it across Dundonald is probably going to wait until they redo the entire network, which is planned for soonish. One potential benefit of this is because the campuses and hospital are served by the new route, the 16/17 (or rather the new route that replaces them) can be rerouted onto a more direct route. That one is the fastest route between Kings Place and the mall, but it's painfully slow at rush hour. Putting it straight down Regent or more likely diverting it onto Windsor is the best case scenario.

I think the increases were originally planned to be phased in so that the they eventually match the city's outside rate.

Looks like that project on Union street will finally be able to go. Mainly thanks to the city moving the sticking point

The storm pipe that has apparently been holding up development is going to be moved and a trail access right of way between the properties will be established.

The new proposal was approved by PAC but it hinges on an access agreement with the adjacent property owner and it doesn't sound like that is going to happen. The applicant was quite frustrated with the situation at both PAC and last night at council but he basically wants the city to intervene in a matter between property owners.
Looks like this will move forward now. Council approved last night an MOU with the landowner. In a nutshell, the City will take responsibility and cost for replacement and upgrade of a new pipeline. The property owner will provide property and trail easements plus an additional $225K split over 4 payments to the City to account for the placement of the new pipe to the west side of the property. This amount is due to the additional cost to the city to move it further west rather than just replace. City funds have been allocated to the 2026 capital budget for the work

I don't think this solves the issue of the access to the site though. That's between the two landowners.

When I read the MOU it appears that it does solve the access issue. You can read the MOU on the city website under Regular Council Meetings.

I read it, and there's no reference to the 616 Union property in it as far as I can tell, unless I missed it.

Additional info here https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-bruns...nstruction-development-housing-9.7245337

From the staff report to council re the MOU on the city website: "In addition to the municipality’s need to replace the aging pipe, both the owner of 638 and
616 Union Street are seeking to redevelop their properties. As the pipe alignment impacts
development options, there is a need for clarity on its replacement to support both public
and private objectives."

A new Tim Hortons is being built on Nevers between the highway and Schoeltens.
