Really sad to see it go. I do think the price point was a little too high for the service it was providing, but it was a good option. Just used it recently to connect to Halifax for a European flight. Was looking at potentially using it again but I guess that stops that plan.

For the pricing, in order for it to have been a big success, your price point needed to get as close to the price to fill your car for Halifax and back plus a uber/bus from the airport to downtown.

I am with you on this. Any airline that "pilots" a route with a single offering a day, is shooting themselves in the foot. When I plan travel, I am always considering, what will happen if my flight is cancelled. If BEST CASE is that you get on a flight a whole 24 hours later and only if it is not full, I will not chance it. Especially when I can just drive...

The pricing was also an issue, and the difficulty connecting with other airlines was cited by a few friends as reasons they did not support the route.

I was hoping that that Pascan would redeploy resources for a YSJ-YHU route

Water salute for the inaugural YHU/YQM route via Porter.

I see the WestJet flight to Edmonton has started up again for the summer as well.

Current Active Destinations from YQM:

- Deer Lake/St, John's (PAL)
- Mont Joli/Wabush (PAL)
- Montreal Trudeau (Air Canada)
- Montreal Metropolitan (Porter)
- Ottawa (Porter, Air Canada)
- Toronto Pearson (Flair, Air Canada)
- Toronto Billy Bishop (Porter)
- Edmonton (WestJet)
- Calgary (WestJet)

I don’t see a huge demand for the Moncton-YHU route when Moncton already has direct flights to Calgary and Edmonton. YHU really just provides YQM with connectivity to Vancouver and Winnipeg.

That's a valid point.

YHU doesn't have the competitive advantage over YUL that Billy Bishop has over YYZ.

Billy Bishop is just so damned convenient to downtown Toronto, and, the terminal is much easier to navigate than YYZ. YHU is almost as far from downtown Montreal as YUL is.

The potential for connections elsewhere from YHU is muted because YUL has a legislated monopoly for international flight in greater Montreal. The only potential for connections is to western Canada, and, as you say, Moncton has direct WestJet flights to Calgary and (seasonally) Edmonton.

I guess it boils down to whether or not you prefer Porter over WestJet. All things being equal, I like Porter better.

Wouldn't be a shock for Moncton to have a direct flight to London and Paris by 2030 at least in the summer months. Which then opens up a whole host of connections around the globe.

We once did have a seasonal flight to Paris (Corsair I believe).

YHZ is sucking up all the oxygen for regional trans-Atlantic flights to Europe, but. I continue to believe that the Acadian connection might make a Moncton/Paris route viable.

If Moncton snatches up a trans-Atlantic route, that opens the door for not only people from Moncton but also Fredericton and Saint John. Why take the connection west if you can drive 90 minutes and take a direct from Moncton.

You're right about Corsair. Canada 3000 also had direct Moncton to Paris fligths in 90s up until the airline went bankrupt in 2001.

Condor airlines also few 757-300s into Moncton from Hannover Germany for a few summers. There are a lot of German connections in SE NB.
