Looks well suited for the hood and I like the potential for ground-floor retail shown in these renderings.

Funky site it's on for sure. Very steep hill that isn't really portrayed in this rendering

Super wonky site with the grade and awkward property lines, plus the existing building. Lydon Lynch had their work cut out for them!

this area was the last place i lived in halifax and i love driving through there again everytime im in halifax. its completely transformed and i bet we are going to see this area outperform the North end. the north end will become completely unaffordable whereas dutch village/joseph howe will have a nice cross section of society in terms of up and coming talent and creativity.

It sort of looks like something out of Cities Skylines.

I like it, though 4 storeys of parking seems excessive.

This has been going for some time, to the point that the (very loud) digging and blasting is becoming part of our heritage here in Fairview. Looks like they are almost done the digging, at least.

Impressive change! I wish some greenery could have been added as well, but this is still a big improvement over the street's previous design.

From HRM's project website: In spring 2026, landscaping work will take place, including the installation of benches, grass sod and other elements.

Fathom Studio was the landscape architect for the project, so I'm hopeful that it will look quite nice once complete, provided there wasn't too much value engineered out.

Crane incident - Dutch Village Road - June 4, 8:45 p.m.
Posted: June 4, 2026 - 8:45 pm

Quote:
The Halifax Regional Municipality is providing residents the following update on impacts from a construction crane at 3644 Dutch Village Road in Halifax.

Evacuation area

At approximately 4:40 p.m. today, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) were called to assess the stability of a construction crane at 3644 Dutch Village Road. The crane was upright but deemed to be unstable.

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) were called to the scene and blocked local streets in the area. As such, residents are advised to avoid the area of Dutch Village Road in the vicinity of Titus Street, Main Avenue, McFatridge Road, Alma Crescent, Andrew Street, Deal Street and Percy Street.

Safety officers from the Province of Nova Scotia’s Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration remain on the scene and are being supported by HRFE and HRP.

As of 7:30 p.m., the scene has been secured and is considered safe. A repair plan for the crane is currently being developed in consultation with the crane company. HRFE and HRP, along with personnel from the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, will remain on site overnight to monitor the situation and ensure that conditions remain stable.

Approximately 100 people have been evacuated from the area as a precaution and residents are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

It’s almost surprising that this doesn’t happen more often, given how many cranes are constantly in the air around here, being set up and torn down on a regular basis, with many different “levels” of contractors/developers in play.

Were there any updates as to what happened and how it was resolved? The last I read mentioned that loose and broken fasteners were discovered, but the outcome was unclear at that time.

Ended up being reported as lose or missing fasteners. So probably bolts in the mast section. The trolly was at the end of the boom when I drove by that night, probably to try and balance the counterweight as best as possible to take tension of the mast sections. Last I saw there was still a stop work order on use of the crane.

The neighbourhood might be concerned when the crane goes up at the old church site down the hill. Based on the bottom section in place, it looks to be Omega’s crane of the same make.

I wonder how at ease residents are with the stop work order. Not exactly confidence inspiring that everything is all fixed up and safe.

“Don’t worry, it probably won’t fall down. Nothing to see here.”

Just kidding of course.
