I took some pictures of Victoria during my last trip there a few weeks back, but I haven't properly gone through and edited them yet.

Here is a sample:

Wow, that is a beauty someone! You got it when it was nice and green still. Looking forward to more of your shots. I'll repost my post as it was the last on the previous page.

Same could be said for Montreal, just need to drop a couple of American cities. Edmonton a dark horse and a big supporter of Canadian soccer - perhaps Calgary would have that same reputation if they had a Commonwealth Stadium? Anyways back to skylines..

A few from Victoria, although unfortunately the most recent pics come from real estate companies, but some good views of different parts of downtown and new construction as it continues densifying in the core and it's circular density growth radiating out from the inner harbour in a radial fashion. The highest quality establishing shot I could find is from four years ago in 2022 and shows the inner core of downtown but missing recent growth on the edges, parts of Old Town, James Bay, Songhees, etc.

Not as crisp, but more recent - Fall 2024 from NearMe Victoria on Facebook

source

This fairly recent shot shows the Telus Ocean construction and area, in the pic above you can actually see from four years ago the excavation of the site just above the words gettyimages:

source of above two pics

The previous pic shows a bit of James Bay on the left hand side, adjacent to downtown and Stats Canada defines it as part of downtown. Sorry for the crappy quality, but drone usage anywhere near the harbour is strictly limited to those who apply for a shooting permit due to the harbour airport and those end up being professionals who license them. Still no excuse for real estate firms using low res versions. So yah, end of rant, back to James Bay and this shot includes one of three old school towers built in the late 1960's and early 1970's that were so hated that only today are height limits being revisited..

source

Moving towards the north east waterfront of downtown looking across the bridge to Songhees:

source

some of the earlier Songhees development in this shot dating back a few decades and was met with a fair bit of criticism. Still it's a nice area to walk around.

source

Moving to the eastern edge of downtown, and in particular the Cook and Yates intersection which is seeing towers of 25 and 15 on the north west corner and 20 and 21-storeys on the south west corner as well as an approved 19 and 6-storey on the south-east corner and finally on the north-east corner a 12-storey plus 6-storey buildings completed in 2024. You can see some recent construction pics below:

Crazy to see a tower about the same height as the CN tower...

It's as high as the top of the Skypod (or Space Deck, they keep changing the name), i.e., the 8-storey set of observatories and restaurants, etc. on the CN tower.

The Skypod is at 447 metres. The main observation deck has just 3 public levels and Skytower reaches the same height as the restaurant level of the tower, but it's last occupied floor is around the same height as The CN Towers lower level..

From lowest to highest.

CN Tower Lower Observation Level: 342 metres (1,122 feet)
CN Tower Main Observation Level: 346 metres (1,135 feet)
CN Tower 360 The RestaurantLevel: 351 metres (1,151 feet)

Skytower Top of roof: 351.4 m (1,153 feet)
The Top (SkyPod): 447 metres (1,465 feet)
CN Tower top : 553.3m (1,815 feet)

I hope the CN tower doesn't have a similar fate as the Calgary Tower where it isn't the tallest anymore haha. I'm sure the top of the antenna will always be #1, but I could see someone going taller than the Skypod to have the highest observation deck.

when I was a kid, the upper observation deck (1,465 feet) was called the "Space Deck" whereas the main decks were referred to as the "Sky Pod". I still get them mixed up, accordingly.

I still call it the Skypod. And I will always call it the Skydome full stop.

Just a couple pics from my phone. Picked up my bike from the shop and took it for a test ride to the Spit yesterday.

I love how Vancouver's skyline has evolved, particularly since leaving behind the Tabletop era of the 1990s, when I lived there.
