Quite disheartening to see the quarterly population updates for NB. Probably why we are bereft of news and activities on larger projects except Gateway Towers. Time and again, ICON has retained that Infinity Tower will be 30 stories but the fact they still haven't started 2 years since announcement, and with all the economic and population downturn, it is getting truly worrisome.

I agree that it is disheartening to see absence of activity on the Infinity Tower (or St. Bernard Place for that matter).

Aside from the Franklin Yards, things actually seem quite quiet downtown right now. Even the Gateway Towers seem to be at a near stall at present (I ascribe this to the finishing off of the Third Sister next door).

I don't know what the reason is for the absence of activity, and presume it is multifactorial. If there is no action by the fall, I will be truly alarmed........

I agree that it’s disheartening to see the apparent lack of activity on Infinity Tower and St. Bernard Place. Aside from Franklin Yards, downtown does feel fairly quiet at the moment, and Gateway Towers also seem to be moving slowly right now though I agree that may be related to the finishing work at The Third Sister next door.

That said, there does appear to be at least some new redevelopment activity coming downtown, albeit on a smaller scale.

The properties at 12, 20, and 26 Cameron Street are apparently set to be redeveloped this summer. The grey two-storey house at 12 Cameron was torn down this morning. Fencing for the construction area is expected to start going up this week, with construction to follow this summer.

It sounds like the redevelopment will also eliminate some of the parking spaces near the rear of the Omista Credit Union / Air Canada building, so this seems like a real construction start rather than just a speculative proposal.

Obviously this isn’t on the same scale as Infinity, St. Bernard Place, or Gateway, but it’s still encouraging to see more infill and investment happening in the downtown area. Hopefully it’s a sign that things are still moving, even if some of the larger projects are taking longer than expected.

162 Queen Street is supposedly ready to start in the next couple of weeks also.

Believe Crowne Plaza's exterior renos have begun. They've ripped up the small back portion by the parking lot.

Update: Yep no question, big portion of the east façade is down now.

Concrete footings were being poured today at 20 Cameron Street.

There should be some mini tower cranes going up here and 45 Lewis Street hopefully soon.

Does anyone know if there is anything planned for 25 Waterloo Street? It was bought December last year and now they have put layer of gravel and put some property stakes in the ground. This is a smaller lot I don’t imagine anything major happening here but I do hope that this will not turn out to be a small parking lot.

It currently is a parking lot. There are now cement barriers around the large gravel parking area on Albert street, next to La Factorie Cafe, which extends down to 25 Waterloo. There are signs along the whole area that say “The Chris Rock Parking Only”. I had no idea they needed that much parking. Or maybe the owner sees how much development Lafford is doing in the neighborhood and are just buying up property for future investment.

The Chris Rock used to be a packed house during wing night, although I haven't been there in a while. Looks like they expanded their patio as well. And, they might be busy after ball games from across Assumption blvd. Makes sense they gobbled up a cheap piece of land for customer parking.

Could the top floor balcony of the Three Sisters be one of the best views in the downtown area? Plane spotting, tidal bore, riverfront concerts, fireworks, etc.

New $60M RCMP station nears completion in Moncton
Codiac Regional RCMP already installing equipment at new downtown detachment
Shane Magee · CBC News · Posted: Jul 06, 2026 6:00 AM ADT | Last Updated: 4 hours ago
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/moncton-codiac-rcmp-station-completion-9.7254434

Quote:
Supt. Benoit Jolette, Codiac Regional RCMP's commanding officer, said officers will soon make the move from the old Main Street station to the new one on Albert Street.

It's one step in a multi-stage relocation expected to span months involving thousands of paper court files and sensitive evidence seized as part of investigations.

The new station is designed for up to 376 officers and civilian staff. An emergency dispatch centre will also be moved to the new building in the coming months.
Quote:
Jolette said police are already installing equipment in the new building, but the move will be gradual.

"Most people don't realize that there's 10s of thousands of court files that have to be moved," he said. "There's thousands of court exhibits and property and things that have been seized that need to be moved and it needs to be moved in a specific way.

"The easiest thing to move are people."
Quote:
The new station will eventually house an emergency dispatch centre, or operational communications centre. The centre will relocate later this year from a Dieppe fire hall.

"They will move in after the remainder of the staff just because it's a significant job to set up the [operational communications centre]," Trenholm said.

Another outstanding issue is parking.

The Codiac Regional Policing Authority, the civilian board overseeing Codiac RCMP, heard last fall that the new site has a parking "deficiency." Policing authority board member Scott Steeves said during a Nov. 27 meeting that leasing land for a 120-space parking lot was being considered.

On June 24, the city's planning advisory committee considered a 120-space surface parking lot on land owned by Heritage Group Properties.

The committee voted to table the item to consider better vegetation and fencing to be in line with the city's policies on surface parking lots. Moncton's municipal plan calls for reducing surface parking lots downtown.

And the talk about redeveloping the current RCMP property will pick up again.

Indeed. It is a prime piece of land. I hope whatever gets built there will be substantial.

Agreed. The one thing I hope happens is that the surface parking lots behind the building can be consolidated into one parcel of land. This would create a much larger footprint, and make a substantial development less complicated.

I find it odd that this new station was built apparently without considering parking needs.

In 2019 the city rejected Slate's proposal to create a parking lot on the old co-op land on Record Street. Today we have the Three Sisters complex on this land.

If they were to reject this parking lot on Heritage Developments land, maybe it wouldn't be as favourable for them to just sit on it. If it's the vacant land immediately to the east of the RCMP station, Heritage is paying $52 thousand annual taxes.

This just popped up on Facebook. Anyone know antyhing about this?

Nila Family Restaurant.

I have no idea where this would go unless it is moving into the old downtown Starbucks. Casa Latina was supposed to open there, but, construction seems to have stalled again. Perhaps they have had second thoughts and are either moving to a new format, or have sold off the lease.
