Back to Alison Martino's Sunset Strip.

This photograph caught my eye because I don't recall seeing the multi-colored facade of the 'Sunset House'.

See six more photographs Here

I thought Sunset House was a hotel. This doesn't appear to be that. .um. .place

Perhaps 'Sunset House' was the percursor to the L.A. Mod Shop. giggle

Funny! Bilboard on left asks, “How’s your love life?”. Car on right has Mustang Ranch bumper sticker. All inquiries will be answered promptly.

In a 2016 post on NLA, link HERE, BDiH answers that question:
The Crescendo and the Interlude were operated by GNP, or Gene Norman Presents.
The Crescendo was the main venue, while the Interlude, upstairs, was the smaller club.
GNP Crescendo is still a record label, that apparently got its start releasing recordings of performances at this venue.

I have at least one of their Star Trek soundtrack releases, and maybe a couple other things, so the name Crescendo suddenly got very familiar when I saw it paired up with GNP.

Dent had a long career as a very able secondary player to many top luminaries, Harry Langdon for one. A late performance of his is one many may have seen: A Christmas episode of I Love Lucy had the four leads dressing as Santa . . . but then a fifth Santa shows up. The fifth Santa was Vernon Dent.

Edit add: Oops. I see that Alkapone already identified the film. Sorry!
Found this…Billy Fletcher and Violet Joy were in 18 single reel comedies made by Morris R. Schlank and distributed by Arrow Film Corporation of New York for 1921…maybe before she went west? The group were called Spotlight Comedies with each having names such as A Movie Idol or State Rights. IMDB lists one such film but gives the incorrect names of Billy Bletcher and Viola Joy as here:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1334030/

I don’t know if these are lost silents but nothing more than posters are being found online. The only Pacific Studios in 1921 seems to be up north nearer the bay area and it quickly flopped with several incompleted projects even though it was apparently a large lot with then modern equipment. It closed in 1927 and would not have been set up to make those newfangled “lip service” films.

Musical Neighbors and A Movie Idol are the only Spotlight Comedies titles I’ve located. State Rights was just a slogan used by Arrow having to do with the distribution system. Schlank was entirely West Coast based as a Poverty Row producer. Violet Joy seems to also be in the west all along. And one source indicates Billy Bletcher may have used Billy Fletcher as an alternative identity.

Beckman follow-up

At Caltech commencement last week I was able to determine that the Beckman Auditorium globes do indeed light up. I know that's a load off everyone's mind.

e_r, Sunset House was a company offering novelties and often somewhat weird knicknacs. There was at least one branch location, at Lakewood Shopping Center, which as a child I would visit to see all the curious offerings while I waited for my mother who was clothes shopping at the close May Co. Then we'd go get a bite to eat at the Clifton's Cafeteria located there! Here's a site which has scanned and posted pages from a Sunset House catalog from 1970:

Here's a taste of the Sunset House catalog from the above site:

A 1940s slide from the Hemmings automotive site....I think that's the Hollywood Hills in the background, so my guess is we are looking north from what is now Koreatown.
