The Rockaway Park shuttle trains in Queens have new rail cars outfitted with upgraded technology and safety features, the MTA said on Sunday.
New standard R211A trains debuted on the shuttle line, which provides service between Broad Channel and Rockaway Park in the borough, marking the fifth NYC subway line to be served by the new cars.
The new cars replace the line’s aging R46 fleet, which have been on the route since the 1970s. The railcar rollout coincides with the extension of weekend Rockaway Park Shuttle service that helped improve connections to the Rockaways during beach season.
