YOW-PLS twice weekly. Pre-pandemic AC operated YOW-PLS weekly. Can't remember if it operated in 2019-20 or if it had ceased prior to that.

Also adding YYZ-PLS 5x weekly and YHM-TPA 4x weekly.

Porter adds Turks and Caicos to its roster of sun destinations direct from YOW

Porter Airlines is launching a new direct route to Turks and Caicos from Ottawa.

The airline announced Thursday that, starting Dec. 12, it will fly twice a week between the Ottawa International Airport and Providenciales International Airport in the Caicos Islands.

It’s the fifth new sun destination added to Porter’s winter seasonal network, which has included multiple new routes through Ottawa introduced over the past year.

“We’re excited that Porter Airlines is adding Providenciales (Provo) to its growing list of non-stop sunshine destinations from YOW,” Joel Tkach, vice-president of business development and marketing at the Ottawa International Airport Authority, said in a release.

“Given Canada’s long-standing relationship with Turks and Caicos, this new service will resonate strongly with travellers across Ottawa-Gatineau, thanks to the island’s standout beaches and wide range of adventure activities.”

In April, the carrier announced that service between the YOW and Aruba will begin Nov. 7, followed by Montego Bay, Jamaica Nov. 25 and Los Cabos, Mexico Dec. 18. All three routes will operate twice weekly.

It also said it would be increasing the frequency of the three sun destinations it launched in December 2025: Cancun, Miami and Nassau, Bahamas.

Starting Nov. 6, Porter will also add a route to Turks and Caicos from Toronto Pearson International Airport, with flights five times a week.

“Canada has become one of our most valuable tourism markets, and the addition of Porter Airlines service from both Toronto and Ottawa represents a significant investment in the future of the Turks and Caicos Islands,” said Turks and Caicos tourism minister Zhavargo Jolly in the release. “These new flights provide additional opportunities to build on that momentum and welcome even more Canadian visitors to our shores.”

Earlier this year, senior vice-president and chief commercial officer Edmond Eldebs told OBJ that Ottawa travellers had embraced the new southern routes over the winter. Overall, he said the airline is operating at an 85 per cent load factor across its Ottawa offerings.

Porter currently operates more flights through the capital than any other airline. According to Eldebs, the city has become a cornerstone of its strategy.

“We’re very optimistic about Ottawa and we’re here for the long term,” Eldebs said at the time. “When you look at the business case, we’ve proven it out, that it’s a success. The fact that the catchment area of Ottawa is a million people and many of those people work across the public sector and, on average, the income is higher — these are people that want to fly. They want to travel and they want to travel from an airport that’s convenient to them.”

Also on Thursday, Porter began its non-stop service between YOW and Deer Lake Regional Airport in western Newfoundland. The seasonal route starts with four weekly roundtrips and ends in early September.

PD's YOW-PLS schedule will allow for some connections (outbound on day 4 (maybe day 7 if any western redeyes happen & maybe YYT) and inbound on day 7):

While this may still be a dummy schedule, I see PD in November are showing YOW-YVR as 2x daily. I still don’t get the logic of operating less capacity in peak season. It’s not like PD don’t have any slack in their E95 fleet.

Wow, with PLS starting up in December I think that's Porter's 11th new non stop destination from YOW in 2026.

If we assume PHX isn't coming back then I count 47 non stop destinations from YOW - 23 domestic, 10 transborder, 14 international. Getting close to 50, not bad at all!

It's too bad we couldn't hang on to LAS or PHX. I still think getting non stop service to western USA is inevitable once transborder starts picking up again.

Perhaps with the PD/AA partnership LAX could finally work given O&D + AA connections to Hawaii, Asia and Australia?

Yeah I am pretty sure most of the domestic schedule at least is dummy. Most days have sun departures at 1405 and 1410, I'd imagine the YEG/YYC eastbounds will be re-timed similar to this summer to be able to supply the aircraft for those connections. If days that don't have those early afternoon sun departures give us a hint, maybe YEG will be 6x weekly this winter and YYC only 4x weekly.

I just ran through the sun schedule over Christmas and PD will feature up to 10 sun departures on a given day. Note YYJ is currently scheduled days 1246 this winter so that eats up a frame those days.

Monday - 9 (CUN x2, MCO x2, FLL, RSW, PVR, MIA, LIR)
Tuesday - 8 (CUN, MCO, FLL, RSW, PVR, TPA, NAS, SJD)
Wednesday - 10 (CUN, MCO, FLL, RSW, PVR, TPA, LIR, AUA, GCM, MBJ)
Thursday - 8 (CUN x2, MCO x2, FLL, MIA, TPA. PLS)
Friday - 10 (CUN x2, FLL x2, MCO, PVR, RSW, MIA, LIR, SJD)

Perhaps days 246 will see a 3x weekly YLW added? Or maybe they're waiting to see advanced bookings and will add frequencies those days based on demand.

- The FIDS shows AF 327 departed almost 2 hours early today and only 38 minutes after AF 328's arrival. Must be an error.

I'd prefer to see YOW-YKF, for selfish reasons, but I could live with YXU-YOW. I'd use either several times per year, as the drive from Ottawa is getting worse and worse, especially the Toronto - Kitchener stretch.

Ah yes there it is. Either it went down and back up when I looked earlier or the mobile version of the website hasn't been updated yet as earlier I was looking on my cell phone...likely as looking on my laptop, within the url the imagine contains 'desktop'.

So YOW-PUJ (probably along with YHM/YYZ-PUJ) and maybe YXU-YOW are coming next week. Wonder what else they'd launch out of YXU? YXU-YEG, YHZ & YVR are all former Swoop routes.

I'd be surprised if they launched transcon domestic routes from YXU in the winter, if they were looking to emulate YHM you'd think they'd either have done it for this summer, or wait until summer 2027.

TS flies YXU-CUN/PUJ in the winter (typically with YOW-sun-YXU-sun-YOW routing), perhaps PD will be taking over the sun flying on those routes for them?

YOW-PUJ 3x weekly would fill in the "missing" flights I mentioned upthread, though days 126 (not 246) would give them aggregate daily flights with the 4x weekly TS has loaded.

Today's AC889/888 are full in Y/PY both ways. 889 is 28/30 J and 888 is 29/30 J n
