I should be able to get over there this evening.

I really wish there was a tunnel under Albert Street that was rideable for cyclists. Probably impossible on the north side because of that house on the corner. One on the south side of the creek would be ideal, but I can't see either the park or city investing that kind of money.

The few second head start for pedestrians at the Regina & Albert intersection has made crossing there better.

The pedestrian half signal at 19th & Albert is hella sketchy for cyclists. Drivers get a flashing red so traffic doesn't stay stopped.

I usually just avoid the park taking College or 23rd to go east/west.

I noticed for the section of wall foundation poured at Costco they removed the sticks they had under the wall, but there's still stuff under the concrete. I think its called void form, made out of cardboard. I tried running a mapping flight at Costco but it stopped about 2/3 in. Turns out there's a 200 waypoint limit for weight point missions, there are a few ways to work around that easiest to set the drone to take timed photos instead having each photo in the program (modified the flight and it dropped from 209 points to 36).

Got a big hole in the crescents berm. So many building sites, its strange seeing that much green.

Several different species being planted.

The trees along 18 block Hamilton have been replaced 3 times since Tower 3 was built, despite the use of soil cells. They look OK so far this year.

Working on the Arens Road extension towards Anaquod. Definitely looking like a pump track in the park over there. Big pile of steel at the Green firehouse / washroom.

Lots more fill dirt hauling and doing piles for next building. Putting boulders in the outlet for the speakers corner drainage project. I think the work near there is nearly done, just a few pieces of pipe to connect the outlet pieces further north already installed at buried (this photo shows gap without trees blocking the view https://flic.kr/p/2shcBmM).

Next section of Costco foundation wall poured. Added another pair of concrete chambers on south side of storm water pit. Drove out to get a few shots of the borrow pit south of the city this evening.

Installing the precast stay in place panels for the north Albert bridge this weekend. I did a mapping flight over the costco site and uploaded the 264 photos to a webservice to combine them into a single site image. The result was somewhat distorted, I was able to correct it a bit. Really need control points on the ground or possibly perpendicular passes. Going to try different processing settings, the ones I used were less computational but I subsequently read they are really only good for farmland. Second attempt was still warped but a bit cleaner. Going to try identifying fixed features on the ground to use as control points and run it again.

Using control points did the trick (mostly manhole covers and road cracks). This processing run I got a straight image without needing to do any corrections. https://flic.kr/p/2shGqYZ

Is the North Albert bridge just like or like or are they addressing the weird Albert to Ring Road going north connection?

Much agreed, I cycle over Albert at Regina ave or 18th ave almost daily for my commute. I would still take the North underpass over the current situation and look forward to it re-opening and that project being done. Thanks for these pics though, great to see that project from the sky.

Just bridge replacement, not doing any other work. They didn't even need to regrade the ramps since the top of the bridge is the same height despite there being more clearance underneath.

Damage on the bypass bridge up at highway 11 was bad enough they had to cut an entire truss out.

The camera on the drone is attached with 4 very springy rubber dampers. One of them broke so I'll have to send it to get fixed. I think the problem was that the camera cover doesn't secure the camera very well and its constantly bouncing around while in my bag because there are scuffs on the inside of the cover where the camera has been hitting it.

I drove under that this weekend and was shocked. Those manufactured trusses are obviously inappropriate for the oncoming face of a bridge. Last week I looked closely at it as I was wondering why repairs were taking so long. I notice that in addition to the damage to the lower leading edge, the truss was cracked right to the top! If they just replace this with the same thing, there is a 100% chance this will happen again, especially because this it first southbound overpass until you get to Saskatoon.

There were some concerns from the lead contractor about that big construction site in the RM of Sherwood. So I offered to keep my flights outside the berms and maintain a lower online profile for the pictures due to the general public hysteria over such projects. I'll just post them here and avoid FB / Reddit. The photos are set to private on flickr which makes the album invisible and not appear in searches or the photostream but the previews will still be postable here. The album is viewable with a direct link which I can repost here periodically. https://www.flickr.com/gp/reginaconstruction/J5AT0wuQVe

Most of the photos are sorted into albums (90 of them). Judging from the stats I think most people just look at the photostream and don't tap over to the albums tab. I find myself looking at the albums if I want to see previous shots from the same project to spot changes. https://www.flickr.com/photos/reginaconstruction/albums/

Doesn't YQR Development FB page steal your drone shots? Do they ever give you credit or ask for permission?

The type of girders used on the Regina Bypass/Highway 11 bridge are called NU Girders. AI tells us they are much more likely to be severely damaged by an overheight impact:

These are results for are nu girders more susceptible to catastrophic damage due to an impact than steel bridge girders

AI Overview
Yes, NU (Nebraska University) girders (a type of precast, prestressed concrete I-girder) are more susceptible to severe structural compromise from over-height vehicle or equipment impacts than steel bridge girders.

PCI.org
+1
While concrete girders have high mass and stiffness, their behavior under sudden impact differs significantly from steel:
1. Concrete Spalling and Section Loss
NU Girders: Upon impact (such as an over-height truck strike), the concrete at the point of impact is subjected to high localized stress. This causes immediate concrete cracking, crushing, and spalling (breaking off), which immediately reduces the cross-sectional area and load-carrying capacity of the girder.

ScienceDirect.com
+4
Steel Girders: Steel is ductile. An impact typically results in localized yielding, denting, or twisting of the steel flanges or webs, rather than breaking apart. The member usually retains its structural continuity.

ScienceDirect.com
+2
2. Failure of Prestressing Strands
NU Girders: These beams rely on highly tensioned steel strands embedded in the concrete to provide their structural strength. If an impact is severe enough to crack deep into the web, it can sever or expose these strands. Severed strands lead to a sudden and catastrophic loss of flexural capacity, often requiring the girder to be completely replaced.

Bureau of Transportation Statistics (.gov)
+3
Steel Girders: Because steel acts as an integral unit, impacts rarely compromise the fundamental tensile capacity of the beam. Steel beams generally bend or deform, but they do not lose the internal "pre-tensioned" force that gives concrete its strength.
3. Repairability
NU Girders: While minor concrete spalling can be repaired with materials like carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) wraps, severe impact damage to the bottom flange or strands often necessitates total girder replacement, which is highly disruptive and costly.

ResearchGate
+1
Steel Girders: Damaged steel girders can frequently be repaired in place. Crews can use heat-straightening to correct bent webs/flanges, or they can weld splice plates to damaged sections to restore the original capacity without replacing the whole bridge span.

It seems the repair process involves bringing in a new girder. The ends of the removed girder must still be within the column cap. So they'll have to carefully break into those to create a ledge to drop in the new one.

Looks like demo of the old blood bank building on broad is getting ready to be demo'd. They have two lanes on broad fenced off now and more equipment showing up. I assume they will start fairly soon and then the construction of this new apartment building will start not long after.

The permit was issue a few weeks ago and they have been doing some interior demo. Probably salvage.

Took some photos before having to ship the drone off for camera mount repair. They poured another section of the Costco perimeter wall yesterday. My brother was curious about the join between pours, so I got him a picture. There's a little step so the pours aren't just flush against each other. I created an album of just the Costco building overhead shots to make it easier to see progress over time. https://www.flickr.com/photos/reginaconstruction/albums/72177720334136306 Two of the shots were from the opposite direction so I flipped and replaced them to match the others.

Still a bbq on top of the old Canadian Blood Services building. Speakers corner drainage project still has the 19th Ave section to do.

Fog rolled back in by the time I got south of Sask Poly. A whole lot of rebar out there for the first building. When I looked at the photo of the top soil pile I noticed the hole that was dug for fill dirt is being filled back in. I guess they decided to borrow it from there to speed up building pad construction (maybe partially filling it back in, looks like it might still be a pond, just not as deep). (Album Link)

Noticed some path paving while I was out. The gravel paths in Lakeview Park are paved now. The paths that were ripped up in AE Wilson Park for the sewage work were repaved, but the construction fence is still up.

Monday evening while I was riding south on the bypass towards Dewdney I could smell the canola crushing plant from the bridge over the CP tracks. I smelled it once before while I was out at the GTH. A fairly faint odor, that smells a lot like Pizza Hut's oily crust.
