Neighborhoods where the judges live should be where the half-way houses are located.

And tent cities should be placed on University grounds, specifically SFU and UBC since that is where most of the current dogma and support for our current failing ideologies regarding how to tackle (or ignore seems more accurate) homelessness and substance abuse comes from.

I remember someone tried to tent on the grounds of city hall and they were removed promptly

VPD fatally shoots suspect after violent home invasion, hostage-taking

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it was forced to shoot a suspect after a violent home invasion Monday evening.

Officers were called to the residence, located in the area of Commercial Street and East 20th Avenue, around 9 p.m.

“Police arrived on scene to find a violent incident underway with the suspect having gained entry to a residence and holding a man hostage,” the VPD said.

“Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but were ultimately forced to shoot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police say the hostage was injured and taken to hospital, but has since been released.

No VPD officers were injured, and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Neighbours describe the incident
1130 NewsRadio has spoken to a couple of people near the scene at the time of the incident. They say several shots rang out, with at least one stray bullet shattering the glass door of a neighbouring unit.

The owner of that unit says she wasn’t able to sleep all night.

Another neighbour says the suspect tried to get into another unit through the back in the alley before moving on. They said it was that initial neighbour who called 911.

None of the neighbours’ accounts have been confirmed by police.

Paul Morstad, who lives one block from the shooting and who was out on a walk on Monday evening, said he saw an agitated man talking to himself on the street minutes before he heard sirens.

The street was full of police cars when he returned home later.

Yes indeed, that is very alarming. This was not a targeted home invasion, rather a random crazy person breaking in to people's homes. No wonder the residents are freaked out.

It is way past time for governments on the Left and Right to admit there are people who just cannot live in the outside world and need to be institutionalized. No moaning about them doing better "in the community" or about the cost.

That's what I keep saying, homelessness, drug addiction, and mental illness exists on a spectrum, from those who still contribute to society and keep it invisible to those who are too far gone and make it everyone's problem and cause a net burden.

On my way home through Chinatown yesterday, I got really spooked by this man yelling at the top of his lungs as he sat on a bench trying to stab his right ankle with a syringe. He was bleeding out of his leg and it was an incredibly chilling scene. I had to cross the street out of fear. Things have gotten so out of hand.

What are they gonna do? You might as well call and order a pizza and make better use of your time.

Pretty scary. Especially when you think of the random murder of Wataru Kakiuchi in the same area. Some of these people are like a loaded gun ready to go off.

This is the kind of thing that absolutely needs to be cleaned up and have zero societal tolerance for. Our federal and provincial governments are failing us.

If you're going to make the effort to post on SSP you can probably call 911.

Must not be that big of a deal then... pick a lane.
