I can't get over how much the general public likes this box. Hardly hear any public commentary about the Fundy Quay building. The generic five-over-one on Crown and Leinster is so much better. It's coated in proper windows, hugs the curve of Crown, etc.

There's so many little things that could have been done better at marginal additional cost.

-Symmetrical black windows, 2 full size casements with a transom.
-Dyed concrete to a straw-ish colour to ape sandstone... or do the whole thing in that pseudo-brick.
-setback on King Steet side from 4th floor onwards. It's 100' deep, no wonder the units have such bizarre layouts. Pare this down to 75' or 80' and you get a much less squat profile at the cost of a couple units per floor. Make it 2-3 storeys taller to make up for that.

I haven’t heard many people gushing praise for this project, but I think it’s a bit much how many photo ops and posts Wayne Long and David Hickey have gotten out of this project, when there’s only 32 affordable units.

Agreed on all the rest… I wonder if they will attempt to paint the white windows?

Well, if nothing else, we’ve learned that with enough public investment, private developers can build a commie block—the aesthetics, anyway, if not the affordability.

Brunswick Brokers has added 99 King Street to their listings, (for the commercial space). Link to the brochure: https://www.bbrokers.ca/wp-content/uploa...eet_Cut-Sheet__FINAL_03.10.2026.rsp_.pdf

The building actually looks acceptable in that rendering: the white instead of mismatched concrete colour, the lines, better difference in materiality, the slim black window mullions, etc. Someone should take a photo from that same perspective and post it side-be-side. Such an abomination. How can the owner be proud of this?

Not to beat an extremely dead horse, but black windows with narrower mullions would have made it look so much better at functionally zero price difference. Cannot explain the rationale for white here.

Maybe they got a really good deal on white windows from their supplier? I’d be shocked if the rationale had nothing to do with a marginally cheaper cost on white windows versus black or brown lol

Could they not at least look at painting the concrete white? Going with white would not only look nicer, it would help keep the building cooler in the summer too.

While I walked a loop around uptown today in the warm weather, I took some pictures of 99 King from a few different angles. Excuse the random gloomy cloud that appeared overhead.

Charlotte Street

King Street East

Coburg Street

Wellington Row

Germain Street

Water Street

I was uptown yesterday and saw the finished exterior for the first time. I know that I am in the minority but I quite like the building. It looks much better in person and fits the surrounding areas nicely.

Nice to see this and Fundy Quay building #1 nearing completion.

Now lets get the Lafford towers, and Fundy Quay building #2 underway and that would officially be momentum when tied with the port expansion and data center.

It's perfectly fine I suppose. I think a lot of people are a little disappointed it's not more interesting given its prominent location, as it is the new building disappears into the skyline so well it hardly even seems new.

A few pics of 99 King from the top of the Stone Church posted by councillor elect Eric Savoie on Instagram.

Pictures like this prove just how much potential there is for high rise developments with amazing ocean views in Saint John!

I was pretty certain before that the building would have looked better by simply deleting the “upside down dresser legs”, but now I’m not so sure.

Overall, it looks pretty good, and seconding what DarkHarbour said, it pretty well just blends into the skyline. Not great, but not terrible.

I wonder if they are still planning those garish Trumpian gold logos on the corners...would almost think they'd need the crane for that.

Maybe they were just some draftsman's fever dream?

Even if they just installed some lights in lieu of the logo, it would look substantially more classy. Slapping that gaudy logo on there won’t just look bad, it will make the top of the building look like a roadside motel chain.

Not sure we’d actually want to see those corners lit up at night, though.

Simply leaving them plain might look the best.

You know what I am looking forward to? Having the sidewalk back. It has been so long that I can barely even remember what it looked like.

Agree 100% about that! Assuming the sidewalk is remediated and open by fall how long will it have been? 5 years?

I wonder if the molding (not sure of the correct name) that goes above the brick panels as well as along the top edge of the building will be installed before the crane comes down.

So then that means we will NOT be seeing any elastomeric paint being applied? This is the final product?
