The rumor mill has been going stir crazy about this. From Popeye's to Olive Garden. One thing is for certain, the Avalon mall does nothing without a plan, so there is definitely a plan in the works.

Ropewalk Lane

Noticed on Realtors.ca the spot Don Cherrys was suppose to open up in is now For Lease. Also a permit was issued on the city website for a restaurant on Ropewalk lane, I'm guessing this is for the new Taco Bell.

Noticed on the Burger King Careers website that they’re hiring staff for a location at 470 Topsail Road (former Walmart)

Was just out driving around on a Sunday afternoon and ended up in Kelligrews where I discovered that the Orange Store there now has a Dairy Queen Grill & Chill restaurant in it.

Plans are for DQ and Little Ceasars on either side of the Orange Store. Additional parking and drive thru has been added in back. Store construction has been really slow. Not sure when they will open.

Mount Pearl is gonna have quite an empty piece of commercial real estate soon. I heard that when the new Irving opens at the top of Mount Carson ave and Kenmount, the two other Irving’s on commonwealth are scheduled to close. In between those two Irving’s was Subway and NAPA Auto parts which are both gone from there now also.

That doesn’t surprise me, never understood the logic in having 2 locations less than 500ft from each other. Wonder if Bergs relocates or the owners just decide to focus on the CBS location

Right. But remember that came about because Irving bought the Ultramar stores. I can see them closing one of these to move it to Kenmount. I don't expect both will close, it would remove Irving from that area entirely which just seems stupid. It would alienate a lot of customers who were used to going to Irving in that area. If you keep one you wouldn't piss them off as much if they have to go up Mount Carson etc. I mean some people get very hung up on the location they go to. I am sure there are customers of the older Irving that simply will never go to the one that was an Ultramar, that sort of thing. But I could be wrong. I know I wouldn't drive that far or up that hill just to go to an Irving.

Ait was Kind of quiet but TD closed their branch at Centennial Square and consolidated it to the Gibson Dr location. Which seems like a hole in the wall compared to the size of the old location. So yes, lots of commercial space in that area.

Not sure if this will be coming here, but Foodtastic will be opening “hundreds” of Dunkin’ brand restaurants in Canada starting next year.

Foodtastic operates Second Cup, Milestones, and Freshii locations across the country

A replacement for the former Hamlyn Road location I assume? Not sure when it closed, but it's not listed on the web site. Must be a couple of years since I bought a slice there. The interior at the time seemed to be mid-reno yet still open.

We Seem to getting a lot of pizzerias lately in that part of metro. We also have Pizza Hut on Cashin Ave, Stoggers on Campbell ave, NoName pizza on Ropewalk Lane, a new Pizza Pizza on Kenmount Rd near the mall. There’s also a pizzeria next to McDonald’s on Topsail rd, and we got Greco a few doors away from that and now…apparently little Caesar’s express will be coming to the Orange Stores soon according to this news report (link)
https://www.canadianpizzamag.com/little-...e-convenience-stores-in-atlantic-canada/

On a side note…
My last experience with Peter’s Pizza was when they were in Hamlyn Road. I called to order a pizza. Someone answered the phone and said “one moment please”, laid the phone down with a clunk without putting me on hold. I could hear the employees there talking in the restaurant. They never came back to phone to take my order. lol. I then called Domino’s on Blackmarsh rd nearby. Oh well. Hope it’s better this time around.

Yes and no. The Hamlyn location relocated just down the road sharing a space with that bar next to McDonald’s on Topsail. After like a year or so they dropped the Peter’s moniker and rebranded to Wild West Pizza

Smitty's

Both Smitty's locations have closed their doors as per VOCM story. This follows earlier reports of the owner, MP Clifford Small owing money for rent and back taxes.
