Ryan Smith was on the Bill Simmons podcast this week and he said they are bringing a 5 star hotel to the sports and entertainment district. Didn’t name the brand. Not sure that’s been mentioned yet, but I thought that was interesting. Really impressed with what Ryan is doing with the Jazz and Mammoth. Practice facilities, partnership with IHC, Sports and Entertainment district, Delta center renovation. The man gets things done. He’s a great ambassador for Utah.

I am sure some of you are on the Reddit SLC/Development page. There were posters saying that there would be an announcement today about SEG. Can anyone confirm?

I can confirm that there was a poster saying that there would be an announcement today about SEG.

Edit: looks like he posted again and said the presser will actually be on May 27 and... wait for it... may or may not have any entertainment district details involved. Sounds like just a Salt Palace update

Minor update, a tower crane went up today at the site of the hotel north of the planned Soren tower. NW corner 4th South and West Temple.

This should be the first of many to come over the next year or so.

Looks like demolition has begun to make way for the Trolley North development.

Today marks a major milestone for the new Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah. The state of the art School of Medicine building is now substantially complete, and the plazas have officially opened.

The next couple of months will be critical as we prepare the building for opening ahead of the next academic year.

Thank you to all University of Utah stakeholders, for working through several years of construction activities, including noise, vibrations, and other disruptions, to help bring this project to this milestone.

Looks so boring and without character. I don't hate it but I don't love it, either. Nothing impressive about Salt Lake's development right now.

The brick and those "bay" windows make it more attractive than most of what's been built in slc recently. And that's sad. But I definitely want this rather than the DeWitt and the Citizen and Brix and most of the other apartment buildings that have gone up along the 400 S corridor.

Downtown Update, Silo Park Building 3 - Now Under Construction

Kier Construction @ https://www.kier.org/our-work/multi-unit/ground-up/silos-building-3-2/The Silo Apartments Building 3 is a 219-unit development. This architecturally attractive and interesting
podium-build multifamily project is a welcome infill addition, which will be located along the 600 South entrance to Salt Lake City, and west adj. to the highly attractive and newly emerging Post District. The project will consist of seven stories
with five stories of Type III construction over two stories of Type I podium construction (including one story of subterranean parking). The project is named for the grain silos on the area’s north end, near 500 South, which will be preserved
as part of the project.

Downtown Update - Silo Park's Food, Beverage & Entertainment Projects - The Granary District

Jacob Scholl Reporting For BuildingSaltLake.com - Full Article @ https://buildingsaltlake.com/restaurants...ranary-district/?ct=t(RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN)

More food and beverage options are coming to the Granary District, as the area continues its ongoing buildout.

Two new restaurants — The Rustic and Bowl & Barrel — are slated to be anchors in the new Silo Park, according to a news release from Blaser Ventures and Lowe Property Group, the two companies behind the development. Both companies also developed the Post District, which is just to the east of Silo Park. The new development is located along 500 West between 500 South and 600 South.

The Rustic is described as a “signature Texas-born blend of live music, elevated American comfort food, and a premium beverage program — spanning craft cocktails, local beer, and wine,” the news release says. The Rustic would feature both indoor and outdoor spaces with a restaurant and live music.

Its website shows a handful of locations in the metro areas of Dallas and Houston, as well as a yet-to-open location in Scottsdale, Arizona. The website also describes its food as “American food with culinary flair.”

[B]Bowl & Barrel is an all-ages restaurant that also features a bowling alley. The news release describes the restaurant as, “the bowling alley for a modern era, pairing boutique bowling lanes with a chef-driven menu and handcrafted cocktail program.” Like the Rustic, other Bowl & Barrel locations are found in Texas, with sites in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.

The two are planning to open in the new mixed-use complex by summer 2027.

“The Granary District has become one of the most exciting and authentic neighborhoods in Salt Lake City, and The Rustic and Bowl & Barrel are exactly the type of experiential concepts that continue building on that momentum,” said Brandon Blaser, founder of Blaser Ventures, in the news release.

Blaser added that the two new restaurants “complement the incredible momentum already happening throughout the Granary District and build upon the success we’ve seen at Post District.”

Both restaurants share the same parent company, FreeRange Concepts, which has a total of five F&B brands listed on their website. Nearly all locations of the five restaurants are located in Texas, aside from the Rustic’s new location in Arizona.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with the team behind Silo Park and become part of the momentum happening within the Granary District,” Kyle Noonan, co-founder of FreeRange Concepts, said in the news release. “The neighborhood has an authenticity, energy, and sense of community that aligns naturally with our brands, and we’re looking forward to introducing these concepts and experiences to the Salt Lake City community.”

The two restaurants are the latest to be installed in the Granary District, which already touts a number of noteworthy F&B options. The Post District features locales like Urban Hill, Level Crossing Brewing, Urban Sailor and Sunday’s Best, among others...

Salt Palace employees have now been told what's happening with the rebuild (I am not one, but have heard what they're saying).

It's business as usual through FanX in September, then they begin decommissioning and demolishing the western portion of the building. Plans are being made to figure out which events can continue through the winter in the eastern portion of the building along West Temple.

Then, come sometime next year, the structure along West Temple will also be closed and demolished to support a new multi-story center. No conventions in downtown SLC for 3+ years during the rebuild. Angry/hurt/disappointed employees. Big impact on our economy for awhile.

Anyone involved in the bar/restaurant industry downtown? How will 3-5 yrs of no conventions affect the industry? Do you think a lot of establishments will have to close? How about people in retail--I wonder what percentage of City Creek's business comes from convention-goers. Thankfully temple square is fully opening next year, but I can't imagine that brings as many people downtown as conventions.

I tried to conjecture a while back how they would manage a rebuild while continuing operation. Everything I tried had enormous problems and would result in a nonideal finished product. It seems brighter minds than mine couldn't manage it either. This kind of sucks for downtown in the meantime. It's fun being in downtown area when there are conventions going on. Hopefully this rebuild is worth it.

Salt Palace to fully close for 3 years starting fall 2027

News Flash! SEG is having second thoughts! They will be doing what other developers have done historically in Salt Lake City and significantly scale back original plans. Rumors are now circulating that Comrade's favorite hotel chain will be building in place of the 600' ft residential tower. The proposed plan will be identical to this beauty!: https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=...b=0&cw=1874&ch=922&ajaxhist=0&ajaxserp=0

The Salt Palace being closed for 3 years is objectively difficult for downtown and pretending otherwise is just coping. I think the end result will probably be worth it, but that definitely hurts the vibrancy of a city a lot of people already think is sleepy.
