I don't think the dog and pony opening in 2025 or these extra closures will be remembered in 3-5 years. They are stupid and annoying though, much like the number and length of road closures for the Arbutus line.

I didn't realise this until now but if you're cycling across the Riverview the westbound and eastbound directions both force you into a wall and an uncomfortably sharp turn at the end of the bridge forcing you to brake and kill all of your forward momentum. Surely it's by design because the opposite direction is a completely smooth kink-free path. Almost makes me want to cross the westbound side going east and the eastbound side going west on my bike... it's not like there's going to be a lot of other pedestrians or cyclists. That sucks.

I used end to cross old bridge by bike and the new connections are million times better. Not sure about the momentum you talking about, I’m pretty sure you just need to slow down, but in any event this is to become the best bridge crossing in lower mainland by a huge margin!

I rode over the bridge at 17:50 today. All the fencing along the west approach MUP is temporary scaffolding. Still quite a bit of work to be done on the side they opened today. Why don't they just wait for it to be finished before opening??? There's also a narrow section for ~25 m on the east approach with signs telling cyclists to dismount (none of the cyclists I saw, myself included, obeyed the sign). The barrier chicane had been already moved out of the way by other cyclists. I didn't stop to take any photos since I am too chicken when it comes to heights and absolutely despise riding over tall bridges. There is a nice lookout at the apex of the bridge.

Edit: posted at the same time as Lexus. Nice video as usual.

West side is projected to open “summer 2026”. I’m super glad it’s already open. What the alternative? - take shuttle bus, take skytrain, go through Portman or Alex Fraser. I don’t know how many times you rode on the the old bridge, but even existing condition as of today is 1 million times better than what it used to be. Even if this to be final version of what we have today I’ll be super happy to take it.
