Griffin should have made good on his threat, and moved the entire operation to Miami. I would prefer that, if all he's going to do is whine.

Griffin says he’s doubling down on Miami

By Katherine Burton, Bloomberg
May 05, 2026

Quote:
“We went to Miami and revised our building plan to make it a bigger office building,” Griffin said in an interview Tuesday at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills. “What the mayor of New York has made clear to my partners, and principally my New York partners, is that we need to double down on our bet in Miami.”

Griffin, who founded the Citadel hedge fund and market-making firm Citadel Securities, moved himself and his business to Miami from Chicago after criticizing that city’s leadership and response to crime.

“What do we do at 350 is still a point of discussion internally, but what is no longer a point of discussion is when we moved from Chicago, there was a debate between New York and Miami,” Griffin said. “It’s unquestionably true that we made the right choice.”

I guarantee that most Citadel employees don’t want to move to Miami. Employees in most fields move around, and no one will want to be in a place with limited options to move from job to job.

FloridanDev reporting a height cut down to 954 feet from 1043, and no longer supertall. via https://x.com/FloridianDev/status/2057919268943999240?s=20

But new renderings

They finally worked out the podium on the roof, and it seems to fit pretty well now IMO. That's gonna be an amazing space.

Looks very “Jetsons”, but the crown fits better.

Citadel’s Miami HQ Loses Supertall Status in Shift to Nearly All Office Space

Updated plans for Citadel's New HQ have been revealed today, and multiple changes have been made.

For one, office space in the tower expanded from 1.485m SF to 1.642m SF, killing hotel space.
Thought it sould have been the othrr way around.

Probably added more office space because Miami has the tightest office market in the country right now:

"Miami's vacancy rate fell from 15.7% in early 2025 to 12.5% as of April 2026, the lowest among the top 25 metros, according to a Yardi Matrix report.

The city's vacancy rate is well below the national average of 17.6%, and the only other markets that are close to as tight are Manhattan, at 13.1%, and Los Angeles, at 13.8%..."

Called the height cut but it's not much so it's alright, still a nice building.

Sounds like there's a chance both this and the NY tower (350) get built, fingers crossed.

They didnt really need a supertall since they have bayfront frontage with protected views. It would be a different story if the site were further into Brickell. This will still be the tallest tower in Brickell, surpassing Cipriani Residences. We'll have to see if the Dolce Tower or 1414 Brickell materialize, those would be taller.

Has nothing to do with vacancy rate, the expanded office space is for himself. I’m saying I thought the conversion of hotel to office floors would have created greater height, though realistically they couldn’t have gone too much higher.

This will be Citadel’s headquarters, it’s obviously getting built.

I think they removed hotel floors, that's why.

The top looks a lot better in this version and less Chef from the Muppets. This will be big addition to the skyline....especially here from Key Biscayne: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mncbAbc3yJZNki8Y8

It's pretty surprising that the Citadel HQ loses it's proposed height of 1,049 ft to 954 ft. Initially, it was proposed to be about 1,010 ft. When Griffin proposed to remove the hotel portion, and convert it to mostly office space, I never thought that the developers would reduce the height, but now that the height has officially been reduced, it's an utter disappointment, only because I'm bullish on Miami having a major skyline.

At the very least, if the developers wanted to reduct the height, then they could've left the height at least up to 1000 ft. And with the Cipriani and the Okan currently being built between 900-1000 ft, giving Miami 2 900+ ft towers, it would've at least made sense to make this as another supertall, but I guess that's what Griffin wants to do with his building.

The design is great, and when Griffin removed the hotel portion, we all thought that the height isn't going to change, but now with news that the height will be reduced to being another 900+ ft tower, it's not as exciting as it once was when the tower was first proposed. It's still a plus for Miami to attract Citadel, but the tower will lose some steam just because it's not officially a supertall. Bummer!!!

The only people who care about supertall status is us. There aren't many cities in the USA building 900ft+ office buildings.

It's a waterfront location, so the height change won't really be all that noticeable.

https://floridiandevelopment.com/citadel...ll-status-as-plans-shift-toward-offices/

Quote:
Original plans called for a 63-story mixed-use tower containing 212 hotel rooms, approximately 1.485 million square feet of office space, 50 parking spaces, and ground-floor retail. Newly submitted plans instead propose a near fully office-focused tower totaling roughly 1.642 million square feet of office space, an increase of approximately 150,000 square feet compared to the prior proposal.

In exchange for the additional office area, the project has been scaled back vertically. The tower’s height has been reduced and its floor count lowered from 63 stories to 52, significantly altering the proportions of what was once expected to join the country’s growing class of supertall skyscrapers.
Quote:
Near the top of the tower, filings showcase a rooftop pavilion space for a potential restaurant, observation deck, or other use, though its eventual use has not yet been disclosed.

Also, despite the increase in office space, the project’s overall size has been reduced. Previous plans called for approximately 2.12 million square feet of total development, while the latest proposal lowers that figure to roughly 1.71 million square feet.

I get that part. And had Citadel HQ been under construction by now, it would've been on pace towards being a supertall, and not too many cities are actually building a 900+ ft tall tower, but it's kind of a bummer.

I was, at least, looking forward towards Miami eventually surpassing Chicago for second most supertalls in the US, and along with the addition of the cancelled One Brickell City Centre, it's just another bummer.

Hopefully, Miami can set aside more land within Downtown and Brickell for future supertalls, because the current boundary for that isn't enough! At least extend the western boundary from Miami Ave to I-95!
