Was at the AC Marriott last night, and walked by the 11th - Front tower site and it's totally cleaned up and repainted for a parking lot. So it may be a long wait for design review & building permits before construction.

That sounds worrying. Really hope it actually gets completed rather than just forgotten about.

I see they're painting The Grove Hotel. Kind of hard to see exactly what they're doing, but the dark color they chose for the bottom and now the top looks good IMO. It's sure going to be better than that original tan.

I was just wondering the other day how long it would be until they inevitably painted the Grove. There's been a lot of buildings downtown that have had been painted. I guess Boise beige has fallen out of fashion.

Interesting. Took me a minute to grow on me, but I like it. Definitely better than the previous color.

I actually kind of liked the original beige color but I think this looks quite nice as well. I'm curious if any other places downtown are planning on repainting. Maybe something colorful to mix it up.

They should replace the top 4 floors windows they seem too busy to the rest of the building ever since it was opened , they could change them out to match the rest of the building and open the the 2nd story blank walls on Front & Capitol with big windows bring that eyesore of a building to the 21st century , I really never cared for the design sticks way past uneven with the U.S. bank building and the color really !!!! well at least it's getting some lipstick on it !!

This building has always pissed me off. The only entrances make it feel like a parking garage.

I've never been a fan of the building either. Just not a great design. Always reminded me of a giant waffle standing on it's end in the skyline. lol

Here is to hoping the new paint scheme gives it a little more character.

I appreciate that the Grove isn't pretending to be anything really, it's just what it is. Compare it to the Inn at 500 or the Hampton which clearly were designed to look fancy/high end but just come off as cheap and tacky (in my opinion) or the Marriott which is just a complete mess. On the other hand, the Renegade hotel did a great job following the architectural rules that older buildings followed, which makes it feel much more genuine.

General question (maybe impossible to quantify) - is Micron’s investment in Boise encouraging more development in downtown? I hear some of the new apartments have rented to Micron employees, but I’m surprised there is not more construction in the downtown area.

I guess setting it up for parking in the meanwhile is not a death notice , probably to enhance the new Hotel temporaraly instead of dirt & weed eyesore with dust blowing all over the place as it's been a pretty windy spring , I still have hope something could be announced soon , as for the huge Micron project once completed or even before opening you would think more downtown building activity would be taking place , Multi-story workforce housing as well as additional spin-off developement with all the added employees needed , let's hope !!

The last official update is from last December. They submitted a Conditional Use permit which the city approved, which states that they have no more than 2 years to act upon it before it expires. As far as I can tell, this is the furthest out deadline for the project, putting it at around the middle of December, 2027. They still need to present their final design to the Design Review Commission.

For context, there was around 14 months between the final design documents submitted for The Arthur (September 2021) and when they broke ground (November 2022), according to BoiseDev. Obviously the cost of, well, everything has gone up a lot in the last year, slowing down updates (same thing happened to the Arthur).

This is my understanding at least, if anyone else has a better understanding of it then that would be great.
