They are definitely making progress. Site prep is underway. They are building hoarding for sidewalk protection, etc. now

What size will that grocery store be? Who do we theorize might open there? Any sort of a chain or mini chain?

Small format grocery, the building will have 14,500 sqft retail total. I’m not sure if there are other CRUs besides the grocery, there have been too many revisions to this project to keep track of!

With the other project, just south of Pacific Central, that's two new grocery stores for the area. That's great.

The exterior of the hospital features a stunning basket weave design by xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) artist Gracielene Ulu. Inspired by xʷməθkʷəy̓əm teachings and the host Nations— xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil Waututh)—the design reflects ancestral weaving practices and symbolizes care, protection, and carrying what we need to live and heal. From the moment you arrive, it helps create a sense of safety, belonging, and welcome for all patients and families.

That place is massive. I live in Chinatown and pretty curious how it’ll change my neighborhood. I’m especially keen for those roads to open up so I can follow Gore past the hospital to get to False Creek. Hope that happens soonish.

Hopefully it won’t end up like Nesters in Woodwards.

Dahyu Group and rennie are part of the ownership group for the project

Quote:
A milestone moment for our team as we officially break ground on Prior Place Phase I.

More than a decade ago, this site represented a contrarian bet — acquired ahead of the announcement of the new St. Paul’s Hospital and before area planning clarified its future. It required conviction, patience, and a willingness to move against prevailing sentiment. Today, that long-term vision is being realized.

This project is the product of true partnership. My thanks to Mayor Sim and Council for their leadership and resolve in advancing Vancouver's future, and to our partners — Dayhu Group of Companies, rennie, and our internal team at Strand — who have been aligned on this opportunity since day one. We’re also grateful to Woodbourne Capital Management and Bouwinvest Real Estate Investors for their confidence in delivering much-needed housing at scale.

Prior Place Phase I is more than a development. It’s critical infrastructure — over 320 rental homes and 15,000 SF of commercial space designed to support healthcare workers, patients, community members from the surrounding area, and a rapidly evolving district in the False Creek Flats in a complete, amenity-rich context.

City-building at this level demands timing, vision, and disciplined execution. This project reflects all three.

I’ll definitely be back—probably around August, hopefully right when the bridge gets installed!

What does the pedway connect to?

The west structure is only being built now and is a part of the hospital (I assume) and was built later due to staging?

Speculation what this and the Prior St-Malkin building will do for the area?

The 2nd building is the CSRC, opening in 2029. Some staff will remain in and around the old site until then. CSRC

The bridge will be installed prior to the hospital opening so they don't have to close that road again among other issues I would guess.

Oh beauty thanks!

Just re-realizing that the hospital is just these two buildings.

Are the lots along Station street just going to be vacant for the time being (aside from that new office building to the north).

Wonder if future pedways would be a thing if services were related

Yes. Providence owns all the land but I doubt they will be doing more development beyond the hospital and CSRC.
