Can't be any different than convention delegates from all over walking around to and from their connected hotels from the Winnipeg convention center.

Or the thousands of middle class office workers daily.

I guess if someone's only exposure to Downtown is what they see on the news and what they see waiting at a stop light while driving through, their perception may be skewed.

LOL. I recently saw a youTube video that someone made claiming to show all the murder and mayhem rampant in the downtown. He panned his camera back and forth on some trash that had been left behind at a bus stop near the concert hall. As you said, perceptions can be skewed.

lol. what an odd statement. I've been working downtown for almost 20 years, and take a walk daily through the skywalk and/or the street. I have literally never once felt in danger. I mean i have been asked for spare change though. The horror.

That third floor of the medical tower will sure be something. You forget that it had really tall ceilings when it was the movie theatres, but it is really evident now that they have all of the columns exposed. From the street the third floor seems crazy tall.

That's huge. I hope it's highlighted more once it comes to fruition.

I've literally had to stay off comment sections on social media whenever a new/good project for downtown / the exchange / the forks, because it's a justa bunch of uneducated takes / trolls saying how dangerous downtown and how "none of this will save downtown. Winnipeg is broken" lol

It is the same in most cities though. My Aunt and Uncle lived in Minneapolis (Richfield exactly) most of their lives and they always told me they pretty much never go downtown and neither do most people in the suburbs there. Like almost never, as in a handful of times in their lives. Downtown almost always = crime.

I mean it’s true though, downtown had a crime problem.

I’m about the only one in my extended family that isn’t mortified to spend any time downtown. My wife’s family for example will only be dropped off and picked up if they go to a Jets game because they refuse to park and walk downtown.

Our family left Winnipeg when I was 5 years old. Last year, I came back for the first time in over 40 years. I needed to see a Bombers game live in Winnipeg (life long dream). We spent about 5 days in the City exploring different areas. On one of the days me and my family walked all around downtown with no incidents at all. Not sure where all this crime and danger is? Maybe we just didn’t hit the rough parts? I’m not sure. For context, I live in the Lower Mainland and have spent much time walking around downtown Vancouver over the years. Winnipeg felt quite safe in comparison.

The Downtown Eastside in Vancouver makes anywhere in Winnipeg look like Disneyland.

I predict he same people who hide from the downtown now will eventually be complaining that the downtown isn't accessible for them because of all the extra people living there.

My neighbour is scared to go in the back yard because of the people that walk down the back lanes. I hardly see her, she's retired. Pretty sad stuff.

The best part is when they complain about "no parking" when there is dozens of parkades and street parking. They just don't like admitting they don't like walking and/or PAYING for parking lol.

Exactly this. We'll walk to my favourite restaurants and bars when my friends'-friends tag along a hang out and they'll be dumbfounded that no one has attempted to mug us yet.
