Was in Northgate yesterday. Wow, that place is empty. There's nothing on one side from Ben Moss all the way around to where the old Rider store was. Just a row of empty storefronts. And across from those, it's pretty limited, just a Footlocker and EB Games in that section. Even the food court is half empty.

The property management company has not invested nor cared for the property.

I think Northgate should just accept it's fate and close down to instead become a mixed-use residential area with lots of lower level shops, with mid-rise residential, maybe a few townhouses and a community park or something. They can integrate the new stores that have opened up near Albert Street part of parking lot.

It doesn't help that what mall retailers we do have are just one of multiple locations in the city. Cornwall Centre used to have some stores that were only in their mall so it made them a destination shop. That's mostly gone so instead of serving the city, they only have a smaller circle of clients. Northgate has so few anchors (Safeway and Shoppers) and opticians/dentists are not go shopping after outings.

Not exactly retail but we don't have a spot to post this.

Escape Manor is closing. June 14th will be their last day. 1975 Broad Street.

No, it's the same block as the Doubletree.

The Odeon Centre was in the mall attached to the Doubletree.

Coast Appliances has filed for creditor protection. Directors and CEO quit last week and the company is seeking approval for a full shutdown and liquidation.

Hot Topic, a store known for selling pop-culture merchandise and alternative fashion, is on its way to Regina.

Job postings for several positions, including store manager, assistant manager, and sales associate have circulated online, calling for applicants to “bring the fandom to life.”

Warehouse One/Bootlegger is has filed under CCAA and will liquidate all stores starting May 15 if court approved. Three locations in Regina -- Regina East off Quance, Victoria Sq Morgue and Southland Mall. (Warehouse One bought Bootlegger in April 2025 and now both are going broke.)

7-11 at Victoria & Arcola is closing. Too much theft. Not surprising since 7-11 had announced back in April they would close a bunch of locations this year.

Look how many they’re closing in Winnipeg due to theft
Currently, 10 7-Eleven locations in Winnipeg are at risk of closing due to concerns over theft and safety issues. Reports indicate that these closures are a response to ongoing crime challenges faced by the stores.

7-11 both closing and moving stores has gone on in Winnipeg for more than 30 years. This is really nothing new other than media noticing and trying to turn it into something.

The breakdown of social order and failure to enforce the law or punish crime is making life harder for poor people. Do gooders think they are helping by not punishing shop lifting and other petty crime, but poor areas are left without accessible services.

Similarly people blame "Big Grocery" for high food prices rather than considering the impact rampant shoplifting, supply management, over regulation and taxes.

I'm surprised that one has lasted this long.
