I'm confused, you rightfully and strongly pushback on the ignorant people who try to paint all of Detroit as nothing more than a giant rotting wasteland, yet you seem to have no issue at all doing the same exact thing to the southside of Chicago, a vast and varied urban American landscape of 118 sq. miles that is home to over 1,000,000 diverse people from all walks of life.
The southside is a big giant place (almost as large as Detroit itself, and with 60% more people). Some parts of it are thriving, some are struggling, some are reviving (about a third of the numerous small-scale MFH the projects that I work on are vacant lot infills in the south lakefront hoods from Douglas down to Woodlawn), and some are just regular old ho-hum middle and working class bungalow belt areas that just keep on doing what they've always been doing. Your notion that Chicago has "
basically just given up on half the city and there is no effort or resources to change the status quo" is beyond absurd, and serves only to illustrate your gross ignorance of what's actually happening on the southside of Chicago.
