Over on Airliners net, a user has mentioned that the bilateral between Canada and Turkey has been increased to 21x weekly from 12x weekly. I wonder if TK would just go daily to YYZ, YUL, and YVR or would add another Canadian city.

No press release as of yet on canada.ca.

I think daily to YYZ/YUL/YVR is the likeliest of scenarios.

YVR-IST is temporary increased to daily for a week in June and no extra-bilateral was applied, so they probably already got the right for additional flights?

A bit weird it’s already loaded in the schedules without anything being posted on the CTA website with regards to extra-bilateral authority, or any other press release from Transport Canada.

I’m guessing we will see something official this week maybe….

Mind you, someone posted on airliners back in January that Qatar got more landing rights in Canada as well, and nothing has been officially posted on that front as well.

That particular poster only posted bilateral information about Turkey and he did seems to have the inside info on the bilateral talk back when TK was asking for access to YVR. So for now he on my trusted source list...

^ I wasn’t talking about the bilateral increase to 21x weekly.

My comments were about the one week in June where TK is increasing to daily to YVR.

Usually things like these are posted in the CTA website in advance.

Just like AH which recently got approval to increase ALG-YUL to 12 weekly for this coming summer.

https://otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/ruling/a-2026-76

Qatar hasn’t scheduled 21x weekly to Canada , and I don’t think they will until it is officially announced. I think it will be the same with Turkey. Hence why that 1 week in June is a bit weird. They aren’t even charter flights. They are available to book on their website. So the fact there is no news from the CTA, global affairs or Transport Canada is a bit weird, no?

AH do not have the right to operate the extra frequencies, thus they will need to submit a request. But if the bilateral is already increased as of June (even unannounced), then they won't need to submit a request for the extra-bilateral frequency, thus no post would appear.

Hence my guess is the post about bilateral increase is correct, and we'll probably see a PR in the near future about bilateral increase "in effect immediately".

Not mentioned is YUL-AUS also have the entire winter schedule removed (was 3x weekly). The route is planned to resume May 2027, unsure if it will stay seasonal from now on...

YVR March Stat:

Domestic: 1,099,052 (+8.5%)
- Transborder: 477,278 (-5.5%)
- Asia Pacific: 447,009 (+19.6%)
- Europe: 98,074 (-6.8%)
- Misc Intl: 147,463 (-4.0%)
Total Intl: 1,169,824 (+ 2.8%)

Total March: 2,268,876 (+5.5%)
Total YTD: 6,367,904 (+4.3%)

https://www.yvr.ca/en/about-yvr/facts-and-stats

This month is the most passenger ever for APAC, surpassing previous peak of 446.6k in Aug 2018.

If not for the fuel issue and the huge transborder cut in the upcoming summer (especially from WS), YVR would be on track for 28 million passengers this year.

Lots of aviation action in Alberta. New cargo hub starting in Edmonton, and a new aircraft manufacturing facility in Calgary.

https://calgary.skyrisecities.com/forum/...villand-field-25m-5s-de-havilland.34222/

DeHavilland's new facility will have its own airport and add 1,500 permanent jobs.
Groundbreaking is tomorrow.

Both YVR-IST and YUL-IST increase to 4x weekly from July for summer season only. YYZ-IST remains 6x weekly. Schedule is still being updated.

IST-YUL up to 4x weekly. No mention of IST-YVR increase as of this posting, apart from the one week in June where it’s daily.

More updates will surely follow.

It varies, but there have been a few numbers thrown out. 6 years, 10 years. A good chunk of it will be done right away as they need to start building aircraft, but the full build out is anyone's guess.

What aircraft are they going to be building there?

twin otters, CL-415 firefighters, etc.

The drawings are a bit of an overkill, as I don't see why they will need all those buildings, but still. Nice to see Dehavilland still alive and kicking.

That control tower is overkill as well, btw... There probably won't be a control tower there intially, unless Dehavilland is ready and willing to pay for it out of pocket (which they probably aren't). It will be an uncontrolled aerodrome.

I'd imagine they will probably get to work leasing out land for private hangar space at some point. Not that the control tower would be needed for a long while, but it isn't inconceivable that they could need it at some point not too far off once the airfield opens. Depends on what kind of traffic ultimately uses the field.
