Just bizarre, I clicked the direct link and got this:

The Amazon CloudFront distribution is configured to block access from your country.

I've never had regional access denied for a picture before

I got a third computer I use for... finding movies a different way, and has a VPN on it. Will check it there

Was just in Mississauga and the skyline does look cool, but up close it's pretty hollow. Good to see density building, and in another 10 years it may resemble more of a proper downtown, but it's just a vertical suburb currently. Definitely has some good looking buildings in there though.

That Calgary shot is really good, starting to look like a city of 2mil now.

That seems a little harsh.

Interestingly, that photo misses the 17th Ave/8th Street intersection, and the 4th St and 1st St corridors, which are probably the densest parts of the Beltline.

Because most people have long considered Calgary to look much larger than it, mainly because of the overall size of the skyline. The metro area isn't even far off of 2 million while I've even heard people say it looks as large or larger than Denver which is a metro area of twice its size. And virtually no metro area of 2 million has that number of large 150+m office towers. So I'd agree that saying it's just now "starting" to look like a city that close to its actual size seems harsh. But perhaps it's true in terms of inner city residential density.

What I meant is that the skyline is filling in and much more varied. Calgary has always had a great skyline, but it was always office towers. Now we are getting a good mix of office and residential, something you would expect to see in a much larger city.

Out of curiosity, can anyone think of a North American metro >3 million with an inner city that looks bigger/denser than Calgary's. The only ones I can think of that are even arguable are Ottawa and Portland. And I don't think the arguments are that strong.

I didn't take what Calgarian said as negative but a positive observation about the big city feel now present beyond the CBD. Perhaps Canadians should stop basing everything on how it relates to the USA, or this case, its cities? The typical US city isn't anything to aspire to in terms of urbanity, density, PT, or vibrancy.

It's a normal to compare, but surely best in class is the way to go. In the 2-3 million range, Copenhagen, Auckland, and Hamburg are far better choices.

When it comes to the sheer quantity & height of the skyline, absolutely not. Calgary is the clear champion of cities in it's size class - and hell, of many cities several times its size.

However, if we're talking about how extensive or "big" feeling an inner city is - we can't forget about the low-growth, older eastern cities like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or Cincinnati, which have impressively over-sized (though sadly reduced from their heyday) and highly urban pre-war inner cities.

Canadian metros have continued to diverge from US ones so comparable examples are now in EU/UK.
