I've only lived here for 21 years, but my impression is that downtown has never looked so bad, despite all the new towers. For a while, I blamed the pandemic, but if anything, things have gotten much worse since the end of the pandemic, and getting worse by the minute. EOV is nothing less than a disaster zone. Such a shame, as both areas have so much potential....but time is running out given all the abandoned buildings.

I remember I wrote to him once about his choices of spending when I lived in his ward. I challenged that he isn't listening to our area and choosing whatever benefited him. That pos emailed back asking if my "mom knew you were awake"

fuck him

The image speaks for itself. The body language/posture, facial expression, the location, the GUT. All of it speaks to the character characteristics of a certain type of personality.

I wonder if Orser now meets the definition of a perennial candidate.... lol. Although he has won twice, he has run in every single municipal election since 1997 (with the exception of the 2000 one).

Along with Van Meerkatburger, and Bud Polhill (Tire Guy).

And for media, that Walt Lonc guy who writes perhaps 40% of the comments published in the LFP birdcage liner.

I'm tired of these guys

I follow former Free Press columnist Morris Dalla Costa on socials, and he recently described him as the Milquetoast Mayor. Pretty much sums it up. He pissed a lot of people off the first year with that huge tax increase, mainly due to police costs for a training centre that I don't think they have even started on yet. Trying to fool people with the big tax hit at the start of the term, hoping they will forget by election time when the tax increases are more in line with recent averages.

Hopefully they don't have any polling stations along Oxford East or Wellington South, or incumbents won't be getting any support there as people try to drive in lol.

My personal opinion is that he is a terrible mayor. He likes the press conferences and likes to go the to Big City meetings, but London currently has the highest unemployment in all of Canada and the downtown is a total disaster. He has had his time to clean up downtown, to build London's economy, but he has not done much. I would like to see them clean house and get some people with fresh ideas. Hopefully the salary increase brings out better candidates.

Not defending Josh but the unemployment issue is kinda out of his control. London is doing what it can to attract new investment and jobs but it is a very competitive scene right now.

It's not like he can stop job losses due to AI, MAGA, Etc. London is just in a vulnerable position for both. At least we are diversified and we don't have a single company that makes or breaks the city (other than GD.. hope that stays around).

Also as a big education hub, the cuts to post secondary positions due to the roll back of immigration and international students pay another factor for London as well.

Hey, he is glad to take the wins, so he also has to be accountable for taking the losses. If he is not accountable then who is? We have the worst unemployment in the entire country. I am not saying it is in his total control but he does have some control. He has been a one trick pony IMHO, focusing only on housing. The downtown is a disaster and a complete embarrassment. He should have cleaned the streets up long ago.

London is moving in the wrong direction, and has been since the end of covid. Downtown is a shambles, and it is getting worse by the hour. It is not possible to drive down Horton/Hamilton without almost hitting some junkie staggering across the road. OEV is a disaster of epic proportions. Lots of shiny new condo towers downtown, but somehow things on the ground are worse than ever....even back to the awful metal-trees era of A-M deCicco-Worst.

Taxes have gone up by a quarter, but services are at very best, flat.

^All true.

I knew a girl who moved from Calgary to London but has since moved back to Calgary. She summed up London this way: "London has all the problems of a big city, but none of the benefits". She said this about 4 years ago and it has only gotten worse.
