Nothing like bringing in some fresh blood to help invigorate an area with more economic activity.

This reminds me a lot of the Andaz Property in Ottawa in Byward Market. Downtown, but got a little bit of edge and character in the wrong direction but its mostly fine.

It's only a block from the Delta Hotel, which seems to get positive reviews, and isn't exactly a low end offering.

It's not public knowledge but I can tell you it will be a Hyatt House. ~60% of the keys will be Hyatt house. ~40% will be Andaz. Makes sense. Andaz does fine in a transitional area or an area with a bit of grit. With the proximity to the Amazon HQ, it makes sense.

Not a good theatre. Drabinsky built it without a real backstage to load in sets etc. and using it for music isn’t its forte as the acoustics weren’t great. Orpheum and Queen Elizabeth are better suited, other than being on the large side.

It sold for $12 million… even a less than ideal theatre is a bargain at that price. Not the best sounding hall, but I have heard some good sounding shows there (Stanley Clarke, Levon Helm Band, Cake…).

VCT really needs something in between the Playhouse (600) and Orpheum/Queen E (2700).

From the Great Northern Way thread.

Quote:
Further financial sustainability is created through development opportunities at VCC’s Downtown Campus. The site has the potential to accommodate up to 800,000 square feet of commercial space, which is projected to generate an endowment in the order of $300 million. Together, the Broadway and Downtown Campus initiatives demonstrate how public post-secondary land can be leveraged to deliver housing, climate infrastructure, and modern learning facilities while securing long-term financial stability for the institution.
Maybe do a swap and stick the VAG here if shadowing on Victory Square is an issue?

They changed it again? It was supposed to be a Standard as the second flag before which I found odd sharing the same lobby

Probably will change (possibly not for the better as everything gets VE'd) as it's just the rezoning and not a DP submission

I just posted about it in the restaurant thread but a new Tahini's Mediterranean fast food restaurant just opened on Pender/Richards and it is really nice, albeit set up really well for what could be a high traffic location. I wonder what this area will look like in 10 years as it seems to be moving quickly in the right direction and with a little bit of cleaning up of the riffraff will be really nice.

Just walked past the upcoming Element/ Moxies Hotel on Seymour and they have a cladding sample up in the adjacent parking lot. It looks great! I took a photo but can’t upload from my phone so will try later. It is reddish terra cotta panelling (pretty sure metal), very reminiscent of Corten steel.
