1994? I don’t think so. More like 1964.

And before the lane control lights there was a counterflow system dating back to 1952, using flippable signs during rush hour (Something like “Use Right Lane Only”), with the centre lane used as a passing lane outside of rush hours.

Some government press release said that.. probably a typo from 1964

This photo in 1964 shows the overhead lights.

Cool photo, thanks for that. Confirms my memory that version 1 had the ability to display a green arrow over the far left lane, although probably never used.

Version 2 only had a green arrow.

Version 3? Impossible to tell as there’s only one signal head per lane.

I’ve seen a Len Norris cartoon lampooning the new lane control signals. The punchline was something about ancient Indian arrowheads.

PBX Engineering has a document on how they did the upgraded system in 2021

They also mention the 1994 date so I assume that date has something to do with whatever system was installed in 1994.

https://www.canadianconsultingengineer.c...30412_RLH-PBX-LGB-Showcase-CCE-Final.pdf

I noticed one of the light sets in the causeway was still off today so maybe that one caused a larger failure.

Thanks for the update! While the Harris Road underpass in Pitt Meadows seems to have died, I'm glad to see this one is taking shape.

'End of an era': Vancouver to cease coin payment for parking

Prior to COVID, he said there were 12 people working as coin collectors, which was then “decimated” during the pandemic. After COVID, the City brought back seven coin collectors. As people retired, more of these roles were further lost to attrition.

“They only kept five. So, basically, they weren’t collecting every meter every day because the money was down, but they should have been for security reasons.”

The City said that ceasing coin-paid parking will result in “involuntary departures,” as well as other staff redeployed to work in other areas.

But they said the reason for this change is that people paying for street parking with coins has “steadily declined” over time. Just four per cent of parking revenue is paid for by coin.

The majority of people pay through apps, which include PayByPhone and HotSpot.

It's from Arcadis

78th Street Interchange, it's just south of Hwy 17. Built and funded by Beddie to support a new industrial park they are building along 88th Street north of the 99.

they have been working on and it looks nearly complete as traffic lights etc are now installed for a new intersection at Delta/Douglas and Lougheed right by the new tower. It's fairly close to the other intersection to the west, could cause some congestion.

Oh my gawd. I remember watching out the back window of the Brill trolleys as the poles sparked going over the junctions on the swing span of the old Connaught bridge. And then tearing it down and building the new one. In my mind it's still the "new" bridge.

Has it really been 40 years already? Oh my gawd.
