Good find Dylan! The two things that pop out to me is the arena roof - maybe one decade they'll power wash it, lol. Also Telus Ocean from this angle on this day/sun angle/distance is a bright purple colour on the west facing side even though close up it's probably a shade of aqua.

Three projects i've noticed that seem to be taking forever are the Speed Avenue Building, the Duck's building Hotel and the slowest of all, the old Wellburn's

I expect you guys can provide some insight as to why they're taking so long

Wow look who's back!

Yeah, Welbourne's has taken a long time. I don't know the reason though. The building on Speed Ave is finished but went through design changes, and even ownership changes (condo, rental, now proposed as a co-op). I was surprised to see the proposal when it was first announced years back, because of the neighbourhood. Then there was the COVID troubles which didn't make the neighbourhood any better, so I'm not surprised there's been delays on the project. Still, it looks like a great building and I've got to comment the proponents for following through and getting it done!

Phil McAvity eh - good to see you finally went to the dentist and got that tooth taken care of..

Speed Avenue is complete! The City issued the occupancy permit in the past week, but it won't be occupied for many months I'd say as its in the process of becoming a co-operative housing. Story here on MV.

Duck Hotel (to be a Hyatt Centric) at 1324 Broad building was slow to start as the demo was done, the facade in place but then there was a period of no activity as they submitted revised plans to the City to increase the height. I think not building vs. building and submitting revised plans put extra pressure on the City to approve which of course they did. Now the excavation is done and concrete is flowing I think this one will proceed fairly quickly.

As for Wellburns (Parkway) I think they've passed the four year mark on construction, lol. Probably at least a year to go because there is still the interiors to be done as the exterior nears completion. They have a small crew working on this one, quite strange. I wonder if this is another building where the developer would love to sell it off as to a REIT or another potential co-op conversion.

Welcome back Phil - and don't tell Scaper but you're right on the bridge and the arena!

EDIT - Yes, as Dylan said above! Hmm, for some reason I think I should check out Wikipedia now..

I took that photo right from the sidewalk, 1143 Pandora, just held my phone overtop of the construction fencing. Maybe it look high up because it's looking down into an excavation.

ah ok, that's the one angle I haven't tried. Plus at your height and reaching over would be a totally different perspective than my height and peering through the fence holes, lol.

Didn't walk around downtown as much this last trip so missed out on a lot of new construction. But did get a good look at Telus Ocean as my hotel was a block away. They had just started cladding last year when I saw it but now that its mostly done it looks good. Better than most recent construction but I wasn't blown away like I thought I should be.

Rode my bike around and did see a lot of new construction out of the downtown core though. And Yes I was house Hunting.

That said Victoria is still one of the nicer provincial Capitals. Homeless population is similar to most other cities.

And Glad I got in while there were no cruise ships in. I may be back during the summer so will spend more time looking around. This time was more just chilling and patio sitting.

I agree with you on Telus Ocean - I said from the start that prow over the main entrance needed to be much more dramatic considering the design of the rest of the building. Also the top is too uniform, instead of the straight line they should have gone with what you can actually see know outlined by the darker glass as the light glass segment at the very top makes the design less interesting. And of course way too many panels on the backside. Good luck with the house hunting and once you settle in we'll invite you to the next SSP Vic lunch organized by the Great Scaper. I think Dylan buys the first three rounds for newcomers..

Probably won't be anytime soon, But if Danni screws up Alberta Anymore it will be sooner. My Vic office already said I should work out of their office.

Good timing for a return aasta, as frustrating inconsistencies seem to be a pet peeve of yours..

Esquimalt council has voted unanimously to grant the development permit for a 21 storey tower while expressing concern that 4 and 6-plexes are ruining the character of neighbourhoods.
