My statements aren't questionable. They are fact.

YYC's connecting passenger % is higher than YYZ, YUL or YVR. Now overall, the percentage might not be as high as ATL or DXB, but I mentioned YYC because i wanted to post a Canadian example of an airport with a high connection percentage. And that percentage is much higher than YYZ, YUL or YVR.

- YYC was 34.4% connecting passengers, as per the YYC 2024 financial report. (Page 3)
- YYZ was 22.3% in 2024 (page 11)
- YUL was 23.4% in 2023. That number is sourced, just don't have it with me at this moment. If you really want, I can find it.
- YVR - Couldn't find a source for YVR, but it's most likely in the 20s as well.

And i'll add that historically, YYC's connection percentage has always been up there. If anything, it's coming down lately. Whereas airports like YUL, historically, have had connection percentages in the low to mid teens. So the difference was even more pronounced 10-15 years ago. In 2013, YUL connection percentage was a mere 15.8%. This is sourced as well.

I don't appreciate being labeled as posting "questionable statements", when it's clearly not true. YYC is head and shoulders above other airports in this country when it comes to connecting passenger percentage. This in turn, slightly inflates YYC's passenger numbers, vs actual unique individuals that step foot in the airport.

All of this is fact. None of this is questionable.

Thank you for some actual numbers. Every large airport in the world relies on increasing the numbers connection passengers and flights. The top 4 airports in Canada all rely on the numbers rising. We wouldn’t be getting new destinations and increasing frequencies without them. Our population isn’t high enough to support it with O/D alone.

YHM Hamilton reported 329,595 passengers for 2025 in their annual report. Not sure where that sits with 2024, but I imagine 2026 will be much higher with full year Porter service

Not a lot of meat on the bone, so to speak, but still worth mentioning that Canada and China have announced an incremental increase in flight rights. No other info was provided.

This article says freighter flights can increase to 20 per week but no mention here either of the weekly pax flight cap: https://www.wingsmagazine.com/ottawa-ann...NXCD260415010&oly_enc_id=5001D3490978J5J

Now capacity cuts from WS:

WestJet cuts seat capacity for June in response to high jet-fuel prices
Eric Atkins Transportation reporter
Published Yesterday

WestJet Airlines is making deeper cuts to its capacity in response to higher fuel prices, reducing the number of available seats in June by 5.5 per cent.

Calgary-based WestJet previously said available seats in April and May would be reduced by 1 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively, as jet fuel prices soared because of supply constraints related to the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

The airline said it is not announcing any route cuts on Monday, but is “evaluating its summer schedule and may adjust flying to balance fuel supply.”

WestJet declined to provide details or say which destinations will see reduced flight frequency....

Yeah, the government link I posted mentions that as well.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. When I said no other info was provided, I meant for passenger flights.

And this is one of the rare North American airlines that still hedges fuel, apparently.

WS has not loaded any cuts for June yet.

All of the cuts for May have been on multi-daily routes so that will probably carry over into June. And they did technically cut one route - YYZ-MDE.

Why has Fort McMurray (YMM) airport passenger count fallen from 1.3M in 2014 to just 360k in 2023. I am guessing that this drop is no longer related to the 2016 wildfires or covid at that point. Do local complain that 250M$ for a new terminal was too much after all or was it necessary to replace the old terminal?

Here's a link to the year passenger count: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit...cs-,Annual%20traffic,40.1%25,-See%20also

Also, it's sad to see how YMM Wikipedia article content decreased in the last 3 years, if someone wants to make it better

Oil Sands AB

The centre of activity and staffing model have changed. Most traffic is now thru Fort MacKay Horizon YNR (Cdn Nat Resources) // Firebag YFI and (lesser?) Albian CAL4.

A lot of fly-in camp living rather than local residential staffing

Around 2014, they were still flying in workers from various places across Canada. There may have been oil sands project(s) in peak development stage, which would mean lots of people flying up there regularly.
These days, no new projects happening, mainly operations.

And now Transat cutting capacity:

Air Transat latest airline to cut flight capacity, citing high jet fuel costs
Eric Atkins Transportation reporter
Published 5 hours ago
Updated 44 minutes ago
For Subscribers

Air Transat TRZ-T -5.96%decrease
has slashed its capacity by 6 per cent between May and October amid high jet-fuel costs caused by the war in the Mideast.

The Montreal-based airline, operated by Transat AT, joins WestJet and Air Canada by changing its schedule to eliminate or consolidate flights made less profitable by the fuel crisis that has gripped the industry since the conflict started on Feb. 28.

Air Transat said it will reduce flight frequency on some European and Caribbean routes while extending the suspension of Cuban flights until October, blaming “the unprecedented aviation-fuel crisis and exceptional volatility in energy markets.” The airline did not provide details...

...Air Transat previously said less than half its fuel consumption for the summer was hedged at lower prices, signalling that its protection from the recent spike is limited...

Good for YXU to finally be getting some capacity back this summer. Hopefully next up is the restoration of YXU-YOW.
