BC Place is even Less adaptable to baseball now with that stupid hockey style scoreboard hanging from the roof .

They will have to remove the hanging scoreboard for baseball games otherwise the balls will hit the scoreboard. It hangs too low, even raised it will be too low.

MLB needs roof to be specific height without obstructions like hanging scoreboards.

I'm not sure if Pav Co wants to remove the scoreboard just for baseball games.

An interesting use of the scoreboard was to run replays of Taylor Swift slipping on stage which fortunately never happened during her shows there.

When built in 1983, BC Place was designed with 4500 retractable bleacher seats in lower deck that can be removed to create more space for the outfield. I'm not sure if those were filled in with the last renovations. Also dugouts will have to be rebuilt.

Saw several Jays and Mariners pre season games in there in the early 90s. They close to Sold out for the Jays as they were coming off World Series victories. Everyone wanted to see Joe Carter !

Sadly BC Place is so so for baseball.

The original air inflated teflon dome roof was 200 feet above field at its apex. The new structural roof is about same height.

Montreal and Olympic Stadium is better suited for baseball when the New roof is ready, more field space. However the old blue roof hung only 170 feet above field which is an issue. Some balls have hit the roof and speakers. The new roof might be higher.

Furthermore, Montreal has 50 % more population than Vancouver, is closer to Toronto and Ottawa. A bigger barrier is that the Seattle Mariners would Object to a team in Vancouver as they consider BC part of their market.

However Seattle Mariners could not Stop MLB from landing a team in Portland or Vancouver. They might complain. Would create an interesting rivalry.

Montreal makes more sense. Allons-y Montreal !

Montreal is a hockey city and nothing else. I grew up a die hard Expos fan but that city doesn’t support anything but the Canadiens and events like F1.

They are still removable, they take them out for some trade shows and events. Not an ideal ballpark, but could serve as a temporary home until something new is built at PNE or elsewhere…

I'm was very happy when the Scotiabank contract was canceled (transferred?) for Canadian Tire in Ottawa. Still Palladium or Corel Centre in my mind though.

Speaking of arenas named after beverages, it could be worse. There's the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans; home of the NBA Pelicans.

The Whitecaps won't open their books. They claim they've lost $ 400 million. Show us the proof. So far its just a claim.

What is Eby going to do, hand over $ 40 million to Kerfoot every season to keep the team here ?

How the hell does an MLS team lose $ 400 million over 15 seasons ? It isn't even a premiere league with top talent !

The Whitecaps situation is indeed concerning. The language that we have seen being used by all parties is not encouraging. There are legitimate issues with how the revenue collection situation is broken down at BC Place between PavCo and the teams. The Whitecaps’ revenue is at the bottom of the league, and is among the top teams in running losses, despite having great performance on the field. That being said though, most teams in the MLS actually seem to be money losers (17 of the 29 teams in the 2024-2025 season reported losses or $0 profit) and most take less than $5M in profit, so I struggle to see how a move to Las Vegas will actually meaningfully change things.

If this actually ends up happening, I think it will unfortunately be the beginning of the end for MLS in Canada. The new winter schedule is going to negatively impact the teams in Montreal and Toronto. Rumours had CF Montreal on thin ice for a potential Detroit relocation a year ago, and strangely enough, both Toronto FC and CF Montreal have not actually been generating a profit. At the very least, if we see an MLS pullback in Canada, I hope more resources get poured into the CPL.

BC Place has been turned over for the stretch run for prep for the World Cup. All non FIFA branding including team branding has to be removed or covered and the dirt / sand infill is going in before the grass can be laid over the top
