What about Regina?

The Queen City’s core neighbourhoods are in a similar spot, with community leaders calling for a change in approach to the growing problem of nuisance properties.

According to the city, by the end of 2025 it had catalogued 894 properties under the “nuisance” definition of the community standards bylaw, which ranges from boarded-up houses to overgrown grass.

Bylaw enforcement officers investigated 173 such properties in 2024, issuing 87 demolition orders and completing 44 demolitions. Most were in older neighbourhoods like North Central, Heritage and Al Ritchie.

For 2026, the city will engage engineers to design the underground and surface infrastructure for the Taylor Field redevelopment.
As for the TFR, in 2026, Jedlic said the city is focused on engaging engineers to design the underground and surface infrastructure for the TFR, which will start construction in 2027.

While construction for a greenfield development begins sooner, Jedlic explained why the TFR will take longer to start.

“We are working with the indoor aquatic facility (IAF) construction, in that they are using the Taylor Field site as a laydown area for all their machinery, equipment and materials required for the IAF. So the two projects will be highly integrated to ensure that we're sort of ablea to use the land as efficiently as possible and install services most efficiently.”

The IAF, which started construction in summer 2025, is set to open in 2029.

However, the TFR isn’t expected to see a similar opening date.
Developers and housing

While no developer has been chosen for the TFR yet, Jedlic said the project has attracted interest.

“The response has been quite positive. I think they understand the ability to leverage the Indoor Aquatics Facility as well as the green space that will be south of 10th Avenue.”

While rents for nearby properties often rise alongside new developments, Jedlic said this is not a concern for the TFR.

“The IAF and splash pads are great amenities, [but] not everyone will want to live there.

At the SUMA Convention on Monday, Mayor Chad Bachynski said the TFR will offer upwards of 500 housing units.

However, an exact number of units hasn’t been finalized yet, said Jedlic.

Regina city council will receive an update on the TFR progress in the first quarter of 2027.

Out for delivery: Amazon circles Regina’s industrial sector

The phrase, “next-day delivery” might be taking on a new meaning for those living in and around Regina.

Glen Hill, executive vice-president and partner at Colliers Regina, said Amazon is “just about ready to pull the trigger” on a new warehouse in Regina’s Global Transportation Hub.

Bell data centre “just the beginning”
The report stated that while the planned Bell Canada AI data centre in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Sherwood will have a limited near-term impact on industrial sales and leasing, it could be the beginning of a trend leading to more diversity in Regina’s market.

Hill believes it’s an excellent opportunity, pointing out that it’s an industry that tends to form clusters.

“And I think our marketplace is right – slowly, but some good land opportunities. The price of land is much cheaper than Calgary or Toronto or Vancouver. So, your initial input costs are, are limited or less than (those cities).”

He also said Interpro Pipe and Steel (formerly Evraz) is increasing production and the Co-op Refinery Complex is considering another expansion, both of which would be “outstanding” for the marketplace.

Hill also didn’t rule out two stalled canola crushing projects getting back on track.

“I know they’re still being discussed,” he said. “It’s a matter of what size they’re going to be. And I think any of that can only help the City of Regina and the surrounding area.

“The RM of Sherwood is quite involved and even the RM of Edenwold and Emerald Park. It can only benefit the greater area.”

Hill said in addition to Amazon, there are a couple of projects he’s not ready to discuss yet at the GTH but said there will be new activity at the hub.

And a new industrial park is planned in the RM of Sherwood northeast of Regina, at Inland Drive and Winnipeg Street, bringing more land into the industrial market.

As for within city limits, Hill said redevelopment of some existing sites will benefit Regina.

One example is the old General Motors Canada plant at Winnipeg Street and 8th Avenue, which Hill said the city is close to securing an agreement on for a master plan.

REGINA, Sask., April 21, 2026 – Cargill’s canola processing facility in Regina, Saskatchewan is now operational, strengthening market access for Western Canadian farmers and helping meet growing global demand for food and low-carbon fuel solutions.

With the capacity to process 1 million metric tonnes of canola annually, the facility increases local demand while enabling more of the crop to be processed domestically into high-value products, including oil for food and renewable fuels and high-protein meal for animal feed. The site will serve growers across Saskatchewan and Western Manitoba.

“This facility strengthens our ability to connect Canadian farmers to growing global demand for food and renewable fuels,” said Jeff Vassart, president, Cargill Canada. “By expanding processing capacity in Saskatchewan, we’re creating more opportunities for farmers while helping ensure Canada remains competitive in rapidly evolving global markets.”

As demand grows for lower-carbon energy solutions, canola is playing an increasingly important role as a renewable feedstock for biofuels. Regina is thrilled’: Canada 55+ Games return to Queen City in 2028

The Canada 55+ Games, an event that was first held in Regina in 1996, is returning to the Queen City in 2028.

The event, which is scheduled to run from Aug. 21-24, 2028, will bring together around 2,000 competitors from every province and territory to compete in 21 different events.
Regina is thrilled to welcome the Canada 55+ Games back home in 2028,” Mayor Chad Bachynski said in a statement.

“Our city has a long and proud history with these Games, and we’re excited to once again showcase the spirit, energy and hospitality that define our community.”

Bachynski said the event promotes active living and community connections, and said the city is ready to cheer on the competitors.

The event will receive funding from Tourism Saskatchewan, the City of Regina and the Regina Hotel Association.

Rail access at Regina’s Global Transportation Hub
The facility is at Regina’s Global Transportation Hub. The company said the site provides efficient rail access to domestic and export markets. Meanwhile, CPKC operates a 300-acre intermodal facility at the hub. The hub also has access to a CN main line.

Cargill bought more than 400 acres near the hub. The land will support rail and road infrastructure around the plant. The company also operates canola processing facilities in Camrose, Alberta, and Clavet, Saskatchewan.
