New Haven Union Station is undergoing a $402 million expansion, which will include a new European-style glass headhouse and expanded platforms. This is in addition to the $120 million expansion at New Haven State Street Station.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/402-million-upgrade-havens-train-214611501.html

Stamford Station, which is the busiest suburban station in North America, is also moving forward with a major expansion.

And Hartford Union Station will be completely replaced with a major new station, but this is further down the line.

The Platform Extensions are a welcome, but the rest seems unneeded for New Haven. Stamford and Hartford need a complete rebuild but i'm not sure about moving the platform in Hartford as the curves can be straightened with the 84 rebuild.

What do people here on SSP think about the world cup fares? I get that there are financial and political issues involving FIFA, but the urban planner in me hurts to think about the whole story that parking was practically banned to get people to use transit, only for transit to bump up it's price to 150$ once they had a near monopoly. I get that it wasn't nj transits decision to limit parking and the economic model gives NJ the shaft, but still...

I remember what passed for a New Haven railroad station before they finished renovating the existing station in the mid '80s. The temporary station was a tribute to plywood and plexiglass. It made the Amshacks look like palaces in comparison. The remodeled station we have now was a revelation. So I also wonder about the need to spend $400 million on enhancements to an already splendid facility. And the State Street station is barely a mile away. Does it really need to be that high a priority?

Better to spend that money on the track infrastructure itself. Isn't the stretch between New Haven and NYC the slowest on the entire Northeast Corridor? As someone in the linked article said, people want to get where they're going in half the time. A fancy rail station canopy doesn't help make that happen.

CT is doing both. They're speeding up times on the New Haven-NYC corridor, and they're rebuilding stations. Both are necessary.

No funding has been allocated for speeding up the New Haven Line , the original goal was to shave off 30mins, but that hasn't been talked about in years.

State Street needs to be redone , it was put together in pieces. Both platforms can only support 3 car trains...the platforms aren't directly connected to each other nor is the Wooster Square neighborhood.
