Are we just a few weeks away then? Traffic really backs up along Main Street near that intersection. It takes 10 minutes just to go 4 blocks. One thing they could do is remove the "no right turn on red light" sign, in the north bound Main St curb lane. Cars end up in a big line to turn right, and end up blocking the middle lane because there are cars parked in the curb lane. Even when the light turns green, nobody can turn right because there are always pedestrians crossing the street.

I’m optimistically believing it could be open by the end of the month.

All of Main should have no left turns unless there's a dedicated lane IMO.

And we are now in the 11th week since the complete road closure. I’ll try to snap a few photos by the end of this week.

It looks like they are laying down a different fill material so maybe this is the final lift until they get to the road surface.

I think they are going to finish by mid-May.

Hopefully they use good quality asphalt like the ones in Tokyo for Broadway

Mixed in with ground up tires makes the asphalt look new even 7 years later.

More likely they use that oatmeal-quality — they use to fill potholes with.

I’m visiting Montreal right now… Vancouver’s asphalt is amazing in comparison!

I'm noticing our road quality is slowly becoming like Toronto though albeit still not as bad as Montreal.
Maybe it's inevitable as Vancouver gets older but.. then again Tokyo and Seoul are much older and their main roads are always nearly intact compared to Toronto and us.

I think there's a lot of construction going on that's requiring them to dig up the roads to install services, and then after filling in and patching the road the patches degrade and the road doesn't get paved until the original asphalt wears out.

I sure hope they repave 22nd Ave when they're done installing whatever line they've working on because the aftermath of that is really awful. It's a bus route so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Tokyo and Seoul have so many different factors that they do right to maintain better roadways that we do not implement, it's really not even comparable. There's significantly higher taxes on vehicle owners, vehicles generally weigh less across all categories (less road wear), and a larger part of the population uses rail based public transportation. Goods movement is done using both lower weight trucks, but less of a reliance on long distance trucking and much more on water transportation for goods movement.

Realistically, we could start taxing vehicles at similar rates, but that would never happen here.

Cracks/potholes probably has more to do with a bad road base than the quality of the asphalt.

Concrete blocks were moved away from the Lee Building and it looks like concrete storm sewer pipes are being installed.

It seems like the crossover tunnel at Cambie is almost to road level

Why is there going to be a left turn lane at Main and Quebec? Before you could not enter Quebec Street southbound at all. It was "Do Not Enter", and Quebec Street is just a quiet side street.

Was hoping to see more sidewalk space for that block, which could potentially attract more bar/resto type places. This activates the pedestrian realm after hours.
