I hope that "living room" space has a food vendor. I assume this will be closed at night to avoid social issues.

That raiing looks extremely vandalizable. All it takes is one medium-heavy push to break that expensive pane of glass. Hopefully they could borrow one of the bored security officers on the Hill to watch after that park. Otherwise it won't last long.

That's too bad. Glass is generally not a good idea in public areas. Overall, it looks kind of busy and easy to hurt ones self with/vandalize. A simple metal railing would have been better.

Glass bus shelters do just fine, some with minimal anchor points. Some glass can be actually stronger than steel. I agree that it looks a bit busy, and the execution looks messy like crooked teeth.

Yeah. if its a simple construction, then it's fine. When you have a bunch of glass panels, often with no frames, then it's problematic. The O-Train stations often have broken glass panels, especially Lees. It's also often dirty and hell to clean. The Stage 2 stations simplified the glass and railings are no longer glass, so they should be more resilient.

Built for durability. How many places in the city are there concrete paving slabs that are spalling, crumbing, cracked, and generally looking terrible?

Sure. But I walked over a trench drain made of a custom coved granite slab with drainage grille somehow routed through the slab. Surely a stainless trench from a catalogue can accomplish the same thing.

I question the durability of the funhouse of sheet metal flashings that border the over-complex glass covering for the stairs. I understand that we won't need to shovel the stairs, but still... One of the glass roof panels is already broken, and it's surrounded by custom bent and lapped sheet metal, probably with lapped peel-and-un-stick membranes caulked to the glass, for lack of a better method and no architectural detail in the design package (ask me how I have similar experience lol)

All-in-all, its a very impressive area, I'm not saying its bad. Its just that it probably cost like $400/sq.ft. to construct.

I moved to Ottawa in 2019 and that summer was the only time I've ever been able to bike the full path behind Parliament. Are they ever going to finish the work around here?

The concrete on both side of the War Museum are an absolute disgrace. Just about every joint is crumbled to the tune of 6 to 12 inches in width. It like some type of science project at this point.

Shoutout to the southbound bus platform at Greenboro station as well. That is easily forgivable compared to the Museum though.

Hopefully when the Museum grounds are replaced they move away from the concrete. If not at least to the job properly. It's only 25 ish years old so it's definitely failing prematurely. Curious what the issue is. That's not normal wear and tear.

Back to the thread topic. I hope they open this park soon. It looks very much complete from the eye test but the fencing is still up. I passed by about a week ago and there was a group of guys working there. I asked when the park would be ready but I think the one gentleman only spoke Ukrainian. He just said no. I assume he thought I was asking if I could enter.

Seemed like they were just finishing up some minor details? The site is mostly clear. Like.. one seacan and a few pallets of materials. One of the pallets contained sod about 3 weeks ago.

Really hoping its at least open by Canada Day.

This spot will be excellent for watching the Grands Feux fireworks from. There’s always a huge crowd in the parking lot behind the Supreme Court, but this will be much nicer.
