I rode there yesterday, and there was no fence, barricade, or any signage indicating that the entrance is prohibited. The bridge looks amazing — really wide and open, with nice approaches as well.

Sigh. Welcome to waiting minutes as a pedestrian to cross to SkyTrain while being given leaflets about impending Jesus return. Not sure how is this better for pedestrians as there is zero need for a cross intersection here given that there is no road to cross on the south side. Perhaps getting rid of slip lane on the north side will make it a bit safer.

How about we get the pedestrian overpass back as opposed to this nonsense? Just re-build the stairs on the south side of the old overpass and call it a day.

I assume this is the cheap option while anticipating removal/movement of the bus exchange which would probably allow for a clean sheet on how to connect people into the mall/future development. Except for the old overpass there's nothing ideal about how people walk from the Skytrain station/bus stops into the mall.

100% they should have signalized turns to reduce pedestrian conflict/remove the slip turn lane. The right turn will also be a signalized turn so you could also probably turn the entry into the parkade into a single lane since you'll never have cars turning left/right at the same time from Central.

I haven't seen those Jesus guys too often recently (maybe that got chased off - awhile ago I heard two of them were almost arrested when they got into an argument and were about to start fighting...

).

It is kind of a silly place for a scramble crossing. Even if (I used to say when) they replace the pedestrian overpass it won't be in the same place the old one was - it would over by the next set of lights where the bus loop entrance is (as that's where the elevators are). That the old one is still standing all these years later is like rubbing salt in the wound for me.

Oh, maybe you're talking about the one that hugs the side of the mall and doesn't go over the street? I read "does ... Metropolis still connect to Station..." and then my brain turned off. It has an annoying habit of doing that...

As far as the scramble intersection goes, I'm guessing it's to solve the vehicle congestion more than to benefit pedestrians. Traffic coming out of the mall often backs up pretty significantly because it gets blocked by people crossing north/south during one phase of the traffic lights and again by people crossing east/west during the other phase.

I think he just means it's not severed on both ends.
It's only severed at the station end (and blocked off at the mall end).

The passageway between the two malls still exists. And the overhead walkway that used to connect to the SkyTrain station is still half-way open, it ends at the stairs that lead down to the bus exchange.

I was there today - extended my bike commute by factor of 3 just to go over the bridge. The bridge is definitely super cool - nice approaches and sort of platform at the north end, ideal for taking photos. Lots of people milling around figuring out how to get there. Well done!

The next on agenda should be getting the protected bike lanes along Willington highway overpass all the way to Brentwood - I know that Burnaby is looking at different options...

The bridge is great! I checked it out earlier this week. Super slick design and really wide, with easy approaches.

Now they just have to improve the connections on both sides.

People turning left from the SB lane on Granville into that parking lot are terrible. Bet you a cyclist is hit within the month.

Yes "67th Ave" is an official bike route, although it's considered a tier 2 "Comfortable for Some" route and according to Strava it's doesn't even get much more traffic than 70th which has no designation.
