The way i see it should be done, is on a main grid system, with what i call the main high frequency buses, and then the connecting buses.

Debate and discussion on whether to bring LTC under City Hall rather then a arms length commission may be coming.

They might want to first articulate what issues or problems they want to fix prior to deciding if bringing LTC in house will solve them.

Interesting there is no quote from Shawn Lewis, the councillor for that school area. He has long been saying that they need to get kids off the school buses and onto LTC buses. I used to take LTC at our own expense when I was in high school because I lived in White Oaks and went to Clarke Road. I'm not really sure that the LTC has the capacity to handle school volumes in those very short windows that students come and go. My kids went to Saunders and I'm sure there were 10-12 buses there every morning. That's 500 or so kids hitting that area in a short time.

Unless they also plan to move public school kids off school buses to LTC, I'm not sure how LTC is supposed to equip and staff up for such short timeframes of demand. And if you do take high school students off the school buses, you probably kneecap the bus companies from being able to stay in business. Many school buses do 2 runs in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, a high school first and then a public school after. Take away the high school end of that, now the bus company is spending the same buying a bus, but only generating half the revenue, and with fewer hours, are they going to have even more issue finding enough drivers?

Maybe the LTC should run a bus out to Regina Mundi HS with a stop at Dingman Rd and Wellington?

Looks like there’s going to be some decent expansion in Byron and River Bend. The new Route 39 is going to run from the Wickerson Heights area of Byron to Oxford and Wonderland, and I see the 24 is going to get extended to Byron too, giving it direct access to Westmount Mall for the first time. Also a new Route 22 serving both Byron and River Bend.

The down side is the 5 Springbank is going to be scaled back to cover a smaller area of Byron, and the 17 Oxford West will revert back to its pre-1994 routing looping around the library without going out to Griffith Street. But the new 39 will replace that.

Used to kill me that when I lived in Byron, my kids could take a single bus directly to Clarke Road high school, but it took a transfer and about an hour to get to Saunders.
