YHU is forbidden from handling scheduled international flights. You will though be able to be a connecting international itinerary via YYZ/YTZ/YHM.

Bout time YOW-YHM gets added.

Here's the press release: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/2...ier-at-New-Montreal-Metropolitan-Airport

That'll get the fleet's utilization up and the ASL down a bit. YHU-YHM is a head scratcher when they don't even flying YOW/YUL-YHM. YQB-YHU will have to mostly rely upon connections.

New routes from MET / Start date / Frequency

Quebec City (YQB) / June 15 / 7x weekly
St. John’s (YYT) / June 15 / 7x weekly
Toronto City (YTZ) / June 15 / 27x weekly
Toronto Pearson (YYZ) / June 15 / 20x weekly
Vancouver (YVR) / June 15 / 14x weekly
Edmonton (YEG) / June 16 / 7x weekly
Calgary (YYC) / June 17 / 7x weekly
Halifax (YHZ) / June 17 / 14x weekly
Charlottetown (YYG) / June 18 / 7x weekly
Winnipeg (YWG) / June 18 / 7x weekly
Moncton (YQM) / June 19 / 7x weekly
Hamilton (YHM) / June 22 / 14x weekly

YYT, YQM, YYG & YWG are summer seasonal only.

No mention of YOW-YHM in the press release despite it being on their new destinations page. That route isn't loaded yet either.

I'd guess they'll announce it tomorrow or Thursday and leave today's fanfare solely to YHU.

Makes sense. Likely a DH4 route given YHU-YHM is on the DH4.

Given the lack of international options from YHU, I wonder if they'd launch seasonal feeder service to YOW in the winter from YHU when YOW has much more international destinations. I'd imagine for US/international flights pax will just drive to YUL, though.

This is what I mentioned on the YOW forum as well. A daily Dash between YOW and YHU could feed each other. YHU would benefit from the international services in YOW and YOW benefits from YHU in case of flight disruptions to domestic markets.

YOW-YHM will definitely be on the DH4. It'll probably be 2x daily but will be at least 1x daily as the YHU-YHM schedule doesn't make sense without another flight.

Here's the YHM-YHU schedule:

PD 2437 YHU-YHM 1555-1725
PD 2439 YHU-YHM 1855-2025

PD 2438 YHM-YHU 0615-0735
PD 2436 YHM-YHU 1550-1710

In order for the above the work a YOW-YHM with roughly the following schedule is needed:

PD 2XXX YOW-YHM 1400-1515
PD 2XXX YHM-YOW 1805-1915

A 2nd daily YOW-YHM with a YHM RON would make sense to feed PD's YOW morning bank from about 0830-1000.

I'm a bit miffed that YHU-YQM will only be summer seasonal. One would think that given the nature of these two cities that year round service would be in order.

On the bright side, Porter service from YQM will now include YYZ, YTZ, YOW and YHU

The schedule for the first day

Arriving YHU:
Code:
YQB 0720
YTZ 1110
YTZ 1355
YVR 1825
YYZ 1857
YTZ 2000
Departing YHU:
Code:
YVR 0840
YTZ 1155
YTZ 1440
YQB 1550
YYT 1920
So for those who are looking at water cannon and ceremonies... the first flight will be PD194 arriving from YQB, PD181 departing to YVR.

All except YTZ are operating with E2.

YYC is always one controller for the evening rush after 11pm for clearance, apron, ground and tower. Not sure if there is another controller on duty or not.

Off peak times its very common for 1 controller to be doing ground and tower at most Canadian airports, YVR is always one controller for north ground and tower. No Canadian airport is anything like LGA though, tower and ground should never be one controller there.

Very tragic what happened, seems like a classic swiss cheese situation that could have been prevented at many points, including a simple clear left and right check from the fire truck before entering the runway. Just brutal. LGA also has Runway status lights, so there are lots of questions about what went wrong besides the obvious.

With these centres I don't think there's a short term plan to cross-train to multiple airports, but I'm sure that's the goal. In ATC every controller is licensed by Transport Canada to work the airport they work at, similar to a pilot license. FSS I believe has a certification system that is similar, but maybe not TC regulated. Someone can correct me. So the YHM controllers would move to Kingston and to start only work YHM. I'm sure the goal is to be able to combine up facilities in quiet times to reduce staff when it's quiet. In the meantime Management, facilities and some equipment can be consolidated. I can see VFR/FSS training moving to these facilities too.

In the IFR world there is a big push for redundancy. Right now if a Centre had to evacuate for a while the service provided would be very narrow. Maybe a couple fixed routes across the region until the aircraft reaches the next Centre. Nav wants to be able to operate any sector from any workstation in the country eventually. These facilities could help that become the case in the VFR/FSS world too.

I just have to say I'm glad I work in a busy tower where this won't affect us directly
The remote tower plan is interesting for sure, for those unaware this already happens to some extent every day with FSS stations taking over for towers when they close... Often at busy times, Kamloops radio handles all morning airline departures from Victoria, Penticton radio does all the late arrivals in YLW.. often making for holds and delays as only one plane is allowed on approach. So its already being done with no visual aids.

It makes tons of sense in Canada where you are sending FSS staff to live in places like Norman Wells and Churchill, should make it easier to recruit staff and cover sick calls etc. I don't see why FSS couldn't be trained / handle multiple airports. Being able to operate any sector from any workstation in the country seems like a lofty goal though.

WS is in for a bad day of ops. YYC is currently under a ground stop due to heavy accumulating snow. Forecast was very off so no preemptive cancellations either.

If traveling today, I’d pack your patience.

Yay YHM now serves the golden triangle GTHA/Ottawa/Montreal. This should help increase business travellers at YHM.

Haven't had serves from YHM to Ottawa and Montreal since Air Canada Jazz days.

Legault calls for resignation of Air Canada CEO over English-only condolence video
'If he still doesn't speak French, it's a lack of respect,' said François Legault
CBC News · Posted: Mar 25, 2026 7:59 AM PDT | Last Updated: 2 hours ago

Premier François Legault has called for the resignation of Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau, saying the English-only condolences he offered following the fatal collision at New York's LaGuardia airport showed a lack of respect toward French-speaking employees and clients.

Legault's comments come as the head of Canada's largest airline has been summoned to Ottawa to explain why he spoke only in English in a video address earlier this week...

Most CEO's in Canada give press conferences or speeches in English only, that's the norm. He's not a government official. That said, he could have had a translator do a French version.

All airports have their 2025 stats out. Here's the 8 busiest showing the differences over 2024. Also showing the growth over the past 10 years, seeing as this past year is a bit messed up due to the US travel situation.

As far as I can tell, ours won't be released until May.

YYT hit 1.38 million in 2024, and as of July 2025 had recovered to pre-pandemic levels. Sounds like we expect to be around 4% higher for the year, so something around +55,200.
