Thanks Tim! Always appreciate your updates!

Great to see UAB going more vertical. Love the look of the new Spain, the UAB Biomed & Psych building looks great too!

Looks like UAB is putting their atop the Daniel Building. It was announced a couple years ago that they would purchase the building. It'll be nice to have a little more light in the skyline in midtown.

Powell Steam Plant was purchased by KultureCity for $11 million, according to AL.com. A lot of talk about a lot of stuff, but I won't believe anything until I see dirt moving. That parking lot has the opportunity to become a prominant public square in downtown; right now, it has no function...

Admittedly, I don't know a lot about KultureCity and I'm glad this site will finally be put to use, but... on the surface it does seem like an odd fit. I was certainly hoping for more entertainment / dining / social space here. Agreed that there is a lot of potential with the parking lot, especially as a connector between Railroad Park and Rotary Trail. Right now, there is a two-block wasteland between the two.

I don't know a lot about KultureCity either, frankly... but, I'm worried that the longer it sits empty, the more momentum it loses. Would have been awesome if it could have been turned into something like what St. Louis has next to Busch Stadium. Just hope that what they have planned doesn't close at 6-7PM on a weekday...

I pass that dang lot everyday on my way into work. It definitely deserves something that will contribute aesthetically to the neighborhood. That corridor deserves to be more than just a truck route...

Does anyone know of any good drone photographers in Birmingham? I'm trying to find some good aerial drone photos of Birmingham, especially of downtown and UAB and other urban eye candy in Birmingham. Especially if they have a Facebook page to follow. Thanks!

Macaroni Lofts looks real, real nice. So much better than the dilapidated state it was in before.

Aaaaaaand the Birmingham-Southern College campus has been sold! According to a news release from Sen. Katie Britt, it has been sold to the U.S. Coast Guard and will serve as a new training center.

I think this is perfect. A stable tenant that will respect the structure of the existing campus and bring even more people into Birmingham.

KultureCity opening new soccer street court for FIFA World Cup 2026

https://bhamnow.com/2026/03/23/kulturecity-opening-new-soccer-street-court-for-fifa-world-cup-2026/

the new street court is one of only two non-host site street courts in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup 2026, an international soccer tournament set to take place between June 11 and July 19, 2026.

President of FIFA will be in attendance for the grand opening. By the way, the city placed a bid a few months ago to be a host city for 2031 Women World Cup. Good timing, Birmingham

I FINALLY have a few weekend, so I'm planning on going about town to get a lot of pictures of projects in progress or newly completed. If there are any things outside of downtown that y'all think I should visit for an update, feel free to let me know. It's long past time to put a real update in the City Compilation.
