A 5-second search brings up this map of 2010 density, which shows lots of areas under 500 people per square mile, and lots of that under 100 people per square mile.
And if you look at the
Census map, there's a lot of yellow near Los Angeles, because those are sheer mountainsides, but there is a lot of green in New Jersey.
