The good news is that some of the smaller buildings and developers have actually started. The bulk of the remaining buildings are by bigger developers with a good track record of getting things done.

Site 15 - Streetside
Site 9 - The Forks
Site 7 - UWCRC 2.0

I can't believe this is finally happening. I'm already excited to see aerial shots when those ugly parking lots are all gone. Build fast, please!

I'm assuming the one being developed by the Forks? haha Site 09 designed by NUmber 10. Number 6. on the list. Phew lots of numbers.

IIRC there was a neat map posted recently, probably by SSP legend Wpg_Guy, showing each development with a little photo icon.

There is a travel vlogger I occasionally watch.

He took the Canadian and when it stopped in Winnipeg, they didn't even know that the Forks was there!

They just walked by the Fort Garry Hotel then went back to wait in the train.

Why is there not a big sign in Via station telling travelers to spend their layover / break there?

So that'd be the 4th building to get started. The one south of the walkway has foundation permit only?

I’m really excited to see this one get started. It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch go up. It would have been so much less stressful to just do a nice modern building but being in this special place it felt like an opportunity to challenge myself to explore something different.

Why is there such a disconnect between public opinion and modern architecture? Why do people love old buildings and often have little emotional connection to modern design? Can a new building achieve both a modern image and be rooted in its place in the way that draws us to old buildings?

The goal was to investigate these questions and respond with something that is specifically modern in its expression, but has the sense of permanence, human scale, proportion, detail, texture, materiality, visual weight, timelessness, that attracts us to old buildings. Could it be achieved without being post-modernist? or fake old? Could it have those qualities and still feel modern? I took a lot of heat during the process and lost a lot of sleep. It was dismissed as post-modern many times. But I’m confident it will be very unique in real life. Some will hate. Some will love. Indifference is the enemy.

I haven't seen or heard any negative reactions toward this building, it seems to be universally liked, its character definitely enhances the overall development.
