TN sold the property and the site owner is using their own in house contractor. I am sure that TN would like to have seen the project move faster to bring the street congestion around the area end.

Also from what I have read Northland Properties finances their projects through their own cash flow and not OPM (other peoples money). Being a private company I don't know if that is true or not but it could explain on how slow things are moving.

I'm sure in hindsight if TNS knew this would happen after Covid, they would've went another direction. But agreed, this is bruuuutal.

I wonder about that. With the owners of Northland being owners of a NHL team could the sale of the land be part of the Old Boys Club network, and it would still have been a slow build regardless of the Covid delay?

Thanks for the info. It all makes a little more sense to me now. Maybe they were more vulnerable to Covid because their projects are self financed, making them less nimble when the unexpected happens. I believe someone mentioned a while back that they were the only developer willing to take the project off TN's hands, as no other company was interested. Perhaps they regret taking this on, since they seem to be lacking in resources.

I think it's was more of a favour to Chipman, from his friend, than a shrewd business decision. Through the pandemic, that became apparent. And here we are. This is the same person (Galiardi, Dallas Stars owner) that flew Scheifele home on his private jet when his dad died. Guy with money. Old boys club as was said.

IIRC there were no takers on the hotel. Or there were takers and things fell through because of business.

I know we all whinge about the slow pace, small crew on site, etc. but it is nice to see tangible progress above ground now. A lot of material has been delivered to the site.

Form work continues in the SW corner, they're putting up new supports, and work has started on the elevator core.

When I was walking through the skywalk yesterday, I stopped and watched the construction site for a few minutes. Counted 12 workers in total, but there were probably more.

Not much. Think I counted 15 the other day.

This morning:

ABLE crane on site.

Some of the cylindrical supports are being turned into square supports for ... reasons? Any iron rings out there care to chime in on that?

They continue to set up the 5'-6' wide supports around the perimeter.

It is good to see more workers onsite, and they are making progress...but for comparison the Bay project has almost double the workers just doing roofing and the skylight than the workers building the structure of a 10-12 storey building.

Probably need some extra capacity on a few of the existing columns due to the design/layout change.

Apparently Winnipeg is hosting the 2027 Junos:

https://junoawards.ca/winnipeg/

Think the hotel will be finished by then?

No, it will be done in 3-5 years.

This morning:

Continuing work on existing supports, building new supports, steel for the elevator core, and in the top-right corner, maybe the shipping area?

Usually around 20 workers these days.

Well, by then The Hyatt Centric will have been up & running a few years, Hilton Garden @ York & Donald & a proposed hotel @ 416 Main and others might go ahead. I say great. Sutton is waiting way too long and I hope others beat them to the punch and they learn a valuable lesson.
They have decreased the project in heights, scale and scope numerous times and showed us many false renderings that never materialize.
I was so on their side and now I couldn't care less, just like them.

It is what it is. You can track any property they've developed and that is how it goes. At this point in the process getting upset at how long it's taking or complaining about number of people on the site won't fix or change anything.

Best to just sit back and watch the slow progress I think.
