I thought the gym was lower down? This sort of looks like the same model with the over height gym level floor but maybe with some section of the model removed on the other side.

Some version had a pool deck lip as well.

The version of the tower before it went kaput seems to have had the two tall floors at the top

Interesting. Anyone know if this model shop was the one that used to be on Granville Island?

They started at B+B and left to start their own company in 1991. Unless there's another model making firm I think they're the only left after B+B closed down.

EDIT: Seems like there's a small new firm. They've done Fifteen Fifteen, Terrace House etc. Owner seems to have worked at AB Models for a few years and left.

RJ Models has a Surrey office

Did work for Westbank Joyce, Kengo Kuma, Paradox/Trump

There's also The Model Shop, who made the Brentwood model. They're now located in Britannia Beach, but mostly make models of Metro Vancouver projects, and ProModelbuilders on East 6th in Mount Pleasant, like A&B.

I was impressed with how prominent this is driving east along 4th, near Jericho.

They said they did 1.5 million in revenue in their first six months in Mt Pleasant.

Well then I'd be expanding too! Tality and the HAVN at the Maritime Museum both coming to Kits, I expect both will be quite packed as well.

Peterson Proposes 34-, 29-Storey Rental Towers On SE Marine Drive

Fresh off of a brand refresh, Vancouver-based Peterson is now advancing one of its largest planned projects to date, according to a new rezoning application published by the City of Vancouver last week.

The subject site is 605-695 SE Marine Drive, located at the northwest corner of the intersection with Fraser Street. The L-shaped site is currently occupied by a large apartment complex, known as Marine Terrace, which extends up Fraser Street to E 65th Avenue. The property is a single parcel that BC Assessment values at $31,874,000 in its latest assessment, and 605 SE Marine Drive is held by Peterson under Fraser Marine Drive Holdings Inc.

The south side of SE Marine Drive is heavily industrial, while the north side is residential and/or retail. Although the area is serviced by buses, the closest SkyTrain station is the Canada Line’s Marine Drive Station, which is a nine-minute bus ride or 25-minute walk away.

Quote:
In a note published alongside the rezoning application, the City of Vancouver stated that “This application is not consistent with Council-adopted policies.” Nonetheless, the City says they are required to process the submission and that a future report will outline whether City staff support the proposal.

Controversial tower proposal for Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood sent back to drawing board

A controversial multi-tower proposal in Strathcona has been sent back to the drawing board by Vancouver council.

In a rare moment of cross-party collaboration, ABC Coun. Mike Klassen proposed a motion to refer the application back to staff to study other “options and considerations”.

It was seconded by Pete Fry of the Green party, and council voted to send it back. OneCity’s Lucy Maloney abstained.

One of the city’s largest developers, Westbank, had partnered with the Promerita Group on the proposal, which would have seen 38- and 39-storey rental buildings at Glen Drive and Hastings, as well as a 19-storey social housing building at Vernon Drive and Hastings.

As we've seen before, this project will likely scale back the social housing component when it is resubmitted.

The Hastings Corridor is a major transit corridor, so I disagree this project is out of place, especially considering the Vancouver ODP sees Hastings as a high density corridor.

Glen and Hastings is close enough to downtown that people would walk or take transit to work. That demands higher density. A bad decision based on knee jerk reactions - "it's tall, so let's protest".

I mean the only way they would get towers this tall would be with a healthy social housing component. Personally I think the height of the towers is probably less of an issue than the social housing.

For those who didn't watch the meeting, here's the link to the YouTube video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMOyS6h-1yM

This is original motion as put forward by Councilor Klassen, and seconded by Councilor Fry.

Councilor Meiszner submitted this amendment, that was seconded by Councilor Dominato to reduce the height, and density proposed. Councilor Maloney was the lone councilor present to vote against it.

This was the final amendment, which was to increase the amount of affordable housing required. It was submitted by Councilor Orr, seconded by Councilor Meiszner, and was approved unanimously.

This comprised the language of the final motion, which was approved unanimously, save for Councilor Maloney who abstained, as well as Councilor Kirby-Yung and Councilor Bligh who were absent.

^Thanks for the summary, I was a bit surprised seeing that it had been sent back to staff.
