Thanks, Hoss.

Here's a nice looking home we haven't seen on NLA.

eBay

I double checked and it's the correct address.

LAPL Edwd. Forrester, 1121 LAKE

I love the mid-century illustrations in this booklette.

"1960'S CIVIC CENTER PEDESTRIAN SHOPPING MALL DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES PROPOSAL BOOK"

Currently on eBay.

It looks like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon spread out over three blocks.

PARKING

"Meet me at the Macrame' Shop and then we'll catch a matinee of 'LOVE STORY'."

A bit confusing.

The only thing I recognize is the Triforium.

Hollywood Heritage's newsletter says they are keeping an eye on a real estate business marketing 4 properties/buildings on Hollywood Blvd. for sale as a group, calling it the Hollywood Boulevard Portfolio. They were built between 1917 and 1929 (according to the realtor). Properties include the Baine Building, Monmarte and other significant historic structures.

They have a link to: LoopNet

Or click this link for a photo that comes up much too large if I post it:

From socallandmarks.com:
The Parasol Restaurant in Rossmoor was one of several iconic Googie architecture restaurants with that name that opened in 1967 in the greater LA area. The Rossmoor location closed in 2004, was saved from demolition in 2007 when it opened as a Mel’s Diner, closed again in 2009 and was bought in 2010 by its current owner, Panera Bread. It is the only Parasol Restaurant still standing.
This was the branch at 12241 Seal Beach Boulevard, and apparently the only extant building.

The pictures I found of the Torrance branch (2690 PCH) look similar, but that appears to have been demolished around 2000.

What a SURPRISE!

I wasn't expecting the building to be shaped like a parasol.

Thanks, Hoss.

An interesting history of it here, dating back to the 1961 beginnings: https://sbhistoryblog.wordpress.com/2017...ted-torrance-diners-from-the-outside-in/

Given Mr. Pappas was in the Army Air Forces during WWII, perhaps he was inspired by the shape of military parachutes? There’s an interior shot that shows the theme was continued to the interiors with inverted parasols as lamp shades projecting down from the ceilings.

Thanks, Alkapone.

The interior is so much better than I imagined it would be.

It looks like a delightful spot to scarf down pancakes.

Yorba Linda Station as 1980’s revived restaurant: Here’s a close-up of a glass ashtray I have had for many years. I’ve recently spotted the matchbooks and found an Orange County article on the venue when it was opening. But no photos seem to surface of the place before it became Polly’s Pies a decade later. Not even sure if it remained open that whole time.

There are an assortment of Hollywood snapshots being sold as a group on eBay

Out of the eight, two of them are mysteries.

I'll start with the six non-mysteries. They're mostly self-explanatory.

#1

The Hollywood Palladium and CBS on Sunset.

#2

A closer view of CBS.

#3

NBC, Sunset and Vine

#4

A sideview of NBC along Sunset Blvd.

#5

Grauman's Chinese Theater

#6

Vine Street Brown Derby

______________________________________________________

Number 7 is the biggest mystery. For the life of me I can't tell what the dark thing is dangling over the street.

#7

Is it a double exposure?

And lastly, here's number 8.

#8

A bookmaker(s)? And what's the building?

Number 8 is the CBS Radio Playhouse on Vine Street with “British Bootmakers” occupying the north storefront space. A FB link: https://www.facebook.com/photo/

This cabinet card from Randsberg is a bit far afield but it's so cool I decided to post it anyway.

It show the Randsberg volunteer firemen in 1898.

So, e_r, where is this Randsberg you speak of?

It's a hop, skip and a huge jump northeast of Los Angeles.

Fashionably “Honorary” since they had a Hotel Los Angeles at Butte & Broadway Streets. But with the population dropping to 46 that might make them “The butte of all Los Angeles jokes”.

I’ll add four more classic era snaps from the Shasta Limited Archives, one at a time, and start with the one that helps date them. This shot is typical at the Chinese Theater. Have fun.
