Latest update from the city is that it is 30% designed as of November 2025. The project is fully funded and hasn't as of yet been targeted by the feds. I believe completion is targeted for 2029.

It's a shame that Mulherin’s didn't work out. Their Fishtown location is superb.

This appears to be true, according to this PGN Article from last week.

Seems like they intend to use the old, "financial hardship" argument, despite having recently raised the money to renovate.

This is an affront to Philadelphia.

It'll be in the next round of Historic Commission reviews. They need to approve demolition before permits can be issued.

Which they probably will. Because historic preservation in Philadelphia is a joke.

Meanwhile there is a parking lot directly across the street.

It's so funny that this is the work of the same people that would be protesting such an act like tearing down a beautiful historical and valuable building because of "money" and "lack of resources". Let's replace William Way in this case with say any national retailer or real estate developer and the second they announce this building is being torn down they would be protesting and performing all kinds of hysterics. And don't start with me on this as I am an openly gay man that supports the mission of the center. They need to try a little harder on this one or they may lose my support on everything.

Great find, the irony is overwhelming. The actual building of the 12th Street gym was nothing remarkable too. I get the historical importance, but it was nothing architecturally compared to 1315 Spruce. They should sell the building the build whatever they want elsewhere.
