This one is of local and national interest:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/car...hina-9.7047880

No real details, but it looks like Carney has been able to drop most tariffs on Canadian products (including Canola from Manitoba) in return for a trickle of Chinese made EVs.

I wonder where the EVs will be sold, and at what price? In Britain they're apparently sold through local established auto dealers, and supported there I am guessing.

Will I be able to buy a BYD at Jim Gautier's? Or will the first cars be initially sent to Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal?

I imagine they'd be sold pretty heavily in Vancouver and Toronto to start. Maybe also Calgary.

EV's are pretty popular out there.

Winnipeg 311 service. They have an option request snow removal. The street crews piled the snow directly onto the sidewalk at the school intersection and all along the sidewalk in front of the school. Kids are having to climb over it. Patrols are standing on the road. I submit snow removal request.

"We will look at your request no later than Jan 29, 2026". Oh great excellent lol I guess it says no later than, so could be today.

I'm sure the school has already called about it.

That reply means a district snow cleaning inspector comes out to look at it by that date. If he/she deems it a hazard then they put in a work order to have a loader and if required a dump truck to move/haul the snow.

I'm still waiting for a replacement WPD Alarm permit sticker to be sent out via 311 that has a due date of Nov 10/25 and showed closed on Jan 9/26

Arctic Gateway, WAA, Centreport and the province look to work together to promote and grow grade and shipping through Manitoba:

Not sure if this is a sign of anything but I recently received a survey on Winnipeg politics. Among the questions was if current councilors Eadie, Rollins, or Wyatt were running vs Gillingham in the upcoming municipal election, who would you support. Amongst other questions like would a lawyer or a nurse make a better mayor etc.

Chinese made doesn't necessarily mean Chinese branded. Chinese made Teslas were coming into Canada prior to the tariffs. At around the same number as is being allowed now.

New Flyer now fully building electric busses in Winnipeg. I believe for a number of years the Winnipeg plant just build the bodies of busses and the engines were assembled and installed in Minnesota.

This announcement looks very positive both for local bus manufacturing and the potential adoption of electric busses across the country.

Too bad winnipeg has canceled its plan to buy anymore electric buses, the federal subsidies have dried up so the city has placed its last order for electric buses.
