Thanks, Xing.

Amazing work as always!

You're the man!!

I assume that you're an architect. Do you think that the steel should start rising above ground fairly quickly since it's already at ground level?

P.S.: I think that I read that Foster might still fiddle with the design. Have you heard anything about that?

This looks excellent from all angles, as expected. It will finally fill that hole in the skyline.

1,226 is no joke. Taller than every building in Europe. Would be 3rd tallest to roof in Hong Kong.

Nearly 200 feet taller than Salesforce and the US Bank Tower.

She's going to look just fine.

The more I look at it the less I like that cube up top.... Can they apply just a little more imagination to the culmination of this tower. Just something more than a box.... we have enough of those in this value-engineered city.

Also, the set-back terraces should be facing west towards the memorial as the greenery gives the overall memorial complex more depth and a better spiral effect as the masterplan called for.

What a clunker. I have yet to see anything that comes close to the original Foster design...

They state that specifically groundbreaking will be done THIS Spring, so if anything closing the PATH entrance (presumably) and ripping off those painted panels will be the first step. If anything we presumably won't see steel rise until the end of the year. Also a quote from a very recent article, "Foster + Partners noted that the renderings show a proposal that is subject to change"

I think the same can be said for all the rebuilt buildings so far, including WTC 1--a glass box with some taper and an exposed spire. It looks like a default setting instead of a symbol of strength, unity, and boldness.

Then enters WTC 2. We went from a gorgeous, crystalline statement to a very expensive glass box. The diamonds are gone, the inspiration is gone and in its place, we have a spire and a few planter boxes that's supposed to make the city gasp! Give me a freaking break. If this is the ceiling for the world's most elite architecture firms, then the real value engineering was the expectations.

I'm sorry. I don't live in NYC. But it does represent my country and I'm not going to be party to a forum that celebrates a complete disaster of a rebuild.
I live in NYC, and I agree completely. This whole thing is a disaster. Every single building is mediocre at best, including this one. Just a pathetic failure to honor the catastrophe of 9/11, and to top it off it took 25 years to produce this —. Awful. Nauseating, even.

I used to live uptown but now I live downtown, not far from 1 World Trade. Every day I look at, a lightly tapered obelisk with a giant toothpick on top. It’s genuinely upsetting that this is the best that they could do, but a testament to artless corporate greed among people who could not care less about 9/11.

Well, I think the draw back is that the whole complex is not coherent since they chose different architects for each building. So each building was trying to make a statement rather than blending to a whole. And of course, the change in designs for 2 WTC and also 3 WTC did not help. Just imagine what Rockefeller Center would look like if they chose architects for each building.

1 and 3 WTC were both famously value-engineered, so it's fitting that 2 would look it too.

Regarding the terraces, I think they can't face the memorial since the building is already built up to street level. So the tower kind of needs to match the original design, to be closest to the memorial. I'm sure someone else can correct me if that's wrong.

On the plus side, I live at the corner of Spring and Bowery streets and in the morning when I stroll to the bodega on Bowery, I see the morning sun reddening the glorious Empire State Building

I realize architecture has changed since Empire was built and we got modernism and then postmodernism, but does so much contemporary architecture have to be so soulless and empty? I do very much like Vandy, which, made a couple hundred feet higher, could easily have stood where 1 Trade stands now. And it has that off-center spire that was originally envisioned. I recall years ago reading that such an off-center spire would have been impractical to build.

For those disappointed I don't blame you but considering how we all thought this would never happen it's great news.

1,226' is decently tall though it could have certainly been taller, and honestly I dig the simple sleekness and outdoor spaces. It may be my favorite tower of the bunch though a makeover of 1WTC's top would probably put it over the edge.

If 5WTC gets built the complex is not exactly bad, but not what it could have been either. I really liked the 1,700 foot twisty diamonds by Foster as a site plan.

People hated the original WTC a lot at first and now we all miss them.

i dont care about taller as long as it is some level of supertall, which of course it will be.

as for the design it fits amex needs well and fits right in with the existing wtc buildings.

i would not go as far as souless, if there is such a thing as ‘pleasantly sleek’ the wtc campus as a whole is that. the materials quality is uniformly top shelf all around and that goes a long way toward the pleasant vibe when you are there.

anyhoo — xing does his thing w/new angles — bravo excellent!

Streetscapes

Actually, I did not realize there was already a streetscape name being used. It’s interesting. I am an oil painter and a I mostly paint impressionist style streetscapes because of my fascination with skylines and architecture.
I look forward to conversing with all of you.

Good to see an image of this tower on the skyline. We've seen so many, but now we're just a short term away from seeing construction ramp up again. It's been a while since we've seen that at the WTC site.
