CBS 60 minutes aired a great piece on the international iGEM competition. It's interesting that Western does not have a team or mentors a local High School team in this.

Exit incentives being offered to Fanshawe workers.

It's probably time to end the freeze of university and college tuitions for domestic students. And look seriously at programs that are needed in the economy with targeted freezes while allowing others to see tuition increases. It's long overdue to think about education in a more strategic way and invest with a vision for the future.

"Fanshawe College president Peter Devlin told staff at a town hall Tuesday morning the college still needs to cut 163 positions, bringing the total number of jobs eliminated to 500 since last spring."

It is a terrible time to be a part-time lecturer. Nobody is hiring. Western has eliminated a great many sections that would usually be taught by part-timers.

Fanshawe announces they will shutdown their building at Wellington and Bradley effective Sept 1st 2026. What they intend to do with the property going forward hasn't been decided.

Citing a decline in international enrolment and financial constraints, Fanshawe College will be closing its London South Campus later this year.

If they sell it off the site would be perfect for a nice 35s residential tower on the BRT. Developers would be interested I suspect if it went on the market.

I'm dating myself but since when was Huron a university? It was always called Huron College and was just a wing of Western. Do you get a Western or Huron degree when you graduate?

Is this only news now? I thought this was out last summer when they made their big job cuts announcements. My daughter was on a contract filling a temp vacancy that was being cut and said the south campus was part of the cuts upcoming. Surprising that wasn't reported back then.

The affiliates get a Western Degree when they graduate. I believe that the formal names are Huron (Kings) University College.

They have now poured some of the ground floor walls and posts and have about half the structural steel installed for the new Pathogen Research Centre (PaRC) building at Western Research Park.

Writing of exams is long overdue for major changes in order to fight the use of AI and other technologies used for cheating. It's far to easy now for students to get away with cheating on assignments and exams.
