The Boston Bruins were invited to the WH by Obama after their cup victory in 2011. I remember the howls of outrage and people pointing their plastic finger of moral superiority at goalie Tim Thomas for not attending.

And it continues:

In addition, Quinn Hughes is now being targeted. Let's throw some anti-Semitism into the hate mix oozing out of Canada. If a Canucks fan did this, not really surprising given the low bar of intelligence which emanates from the Lower Mainland hockey fanbase. Vandalizing Milan Lucic's family church in Burnaby with graffiti and other harassment directed at his family over the Canucks choke job in the 2011 finals speaks volumes.

No doubt Hughes is so happy he no longer plays for a Canadian team.

I guess you have been in a coma for the past 15 months. Trump has been threatening to annex Canada (among other places), even before he was sworn in. The sad thing is, he is not joking around. Canadians are 100% justified to be concerned about the threats of the American Government.

The fact that you blame Canadians for this, implying that we are overreacting, means you probably do not understand World history.

PS...I wonder if Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Austria became "dumber" when Hitler threatened to annex their respective countries.

PPS. Trump is exactly like Putin, arguably worse, considering he is mentally not well.

I generally agree with you about the first parts. But re: the bolded part, I see him as having more than "tendencies" and think it'll be interesting to see how he tries to hold onto power if voted out (if he's even still living and able by that point)

I think part of the American "leadership" strategy was to make the world obsessed with him so that they ignore other issues (which won't go away, and are quite reasonable in most cases).

You've lost your argument comparing Trump to Hitler. You cheapen the suffering people experienced under Nazi Germany.

This whole thread is simultaneously great entertainment, but also seriously concerning.

You can compare someone to Hitler without cheapening the experience and suffering of the victims of the Holocaust and Nazi regime.

As for the “joke” made at the expense of the women’s team… I really don’t think it was that bad (or funny) but people like to blow every little thing he says or doesn’t say out of proportion.

I can’t stand Canada losing to the USA in hockey… I would have rather we just lost to Finland… who knows they might have beat the USA for the gold medal too… it’s just one game.

Moreover, I’m pissed the Russian NHLers weren’t there… (and I get why they weren’t… Putin is like Hitler) but still, Ovi is my favourite active player, and I think he would have left absolutely everything on the ice to win that gold medal, plus the Russians have much better goaltending than Canada, and arguably better D.

Still, Finland is the only member of the “big 6” that has never won gold at the Olympics with NHLers competing… and would have loved to see them upset the USA for the gold. Finland might not have any gold medals in Olympic competitions with NHLers, but they do have the most total medals at the Olympics in competitions with NHLers, and their upset Gold Medal win in 2022 against Russia’s KHLers was well deserved and impressive.

I think it’s good for Canada to lose sometimes… I just hate when it’s against the USA. I’d bet on Canada winning gold in 2030… and honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if Crosby plays in one final Olympic tournament before he hangs them up for good… I just hope I finally get to see the Canada vs Russia gold medal game that I’ve been dreamt about since I was a kid!

You've lost the argument by attempting to brandish Poe's law when in fact if you have people brandishing nazi regalia and trumpeting Hitler's feats, Poe's law is irrelevant. Learn how to argue or excuse yourself from this thread.

Looks like Montreal is the one lone hope to bring Lord Stanley back to Canada after a 23 year drought.

Meanwhile, I'm resigned to watch the race to the bottom, and finish with the greatest odds of obtaining a franchise player:

1. Vancouver (43 pts)
2. St.Louis (51)
3. NY Rangers (53)
4. Chicago (53)
5. Calgary (54)

A Bedard-McKenna line would really be something, considering they are cousins.

The Edmonton Oilers are once again at the center of trade rumors, and this time, it is with a multi-player package deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to a social media post that is currently circulating online, the Oilers are looking to send a first-round draft pick, prospect Beau Akey, and Andrew Mangiapane as part of a larger deal that could net them Oliver Ekman-Larsson and either Nicolas Roy or Scott Laughton.

Rodrigues dekes for beauty shorthanded goal to extend lead vs. Maple Leafs

Before we get into the details of what this could mean for the Oilers, it is worth noting that the source of this information is not considered credible. There has been nothing confirmed by any of the major journalists or outlets. While it is still considered nothing more than rumours, it is certainly an intriguing potential move the Oilers could make.

What the Proposed Package Looks Like
The rumored deal suggests Edmonton would send:

A 1st-round pick
Beau Akey (right-shot defense prospect)
Andrew Mangiapane
Potentially additional assets
In return, the Oilers would receive:

Oliver Ekman-Larsson (defenseman)
One of Nicolas Roy or Scott Laughton (forward)

Sounds like an internal move coming for the Oilers tomorrow:

1. Bowman (GM) gets tanked - unlikely
2. Knob (Coach) gets tanked, Coffey takes over - very possibly, but still less likely
3. Aubry (Goaltending coach) gets tanked - more likely, but does that make much impact at this point?

oops 33...

Hard to believe, but Kurt Cobain was alive when a Canadian team last won the Stanley Cup. Cheers had just had their series finale, and the internet and cell phones were not yet popular.

Sad to see Weegar go, figured he would be the next captain, but we got a decent return. This rebuild is going much deeper than I expected, but I have faith in Conroy!

Would have been cool if we could have got Tij Iginla out of Utah, but they see too much value in him.

Geez - Utah has two of the Moncton Wildcat's best players . Caleb Desnoyers is our captain and was a first round pick. They also have Gabe Smith, who was so good in their training camp last fall they almost kept him. He was the last player cut, and sent back down to Moncton. Iginla too? They're gonna have a bunch of hotties in their youth core.
