Facade looks promising on this one!

I heard that construction has completely halted and I've seen pictures of all equipment being taken off the site. Does anyone have information and updates on the situation?

^^^^

Phase I is topped out. Maybe interior work. Haven't heard of any stall in construction, potentially interior related. Word is it could be electrical related, having to do with the wiring and electrical components.

Pic by me. Taken today.

I apologize as I'm a little confused reading this thread. What is the final height of this tower that's topped out?

Developer blames lender for troubles at Newark’s splashiest project
Lakewood-based Acier Holdings says Parkview stopped funding Halo tower

JUL 16, 2024
By Keith Larsen

Quote:
The Lakewood-based development group behind a massive three-tower development in Newark alleges their lender stopped funding the project.

An entity tied to Acier Holdings filed a lawsuit in New Jersey state court claiming the project’s lender Parkview Financial is undercapitalized and is failing to fund their project known as The Halo. The towers will become some of the tallest buildings in Newark, reshaping the city’s skyline.
Quote:
The developer alleges problems became evident with the lender in early 2023 as construction on the first tower neared completion. According to the complaint, Parkview stopped funding the loan disbursements, which remain outstanding over a year, causing delays in construction.

'We expect that the courts will compel the lender to act appropriately and award our clients the damages its failures have caused,” said Christopher Milito of Morrison Cohen, attorney for the developer.

Stalled work resumes on Newark’s tallest building, now on track for 2026

Quote:
Word that work on the 42-story Halo apartment tower in Newark had resumed was good news to Caha Eldreny.

The 72-year-old Newark resident and Egyptian native owns the Amanah Muslim Merchants store across Washington Street from the incomplete skyscraper in a corner of the city’s downtown that still bears pockets of blight.

“It’s very good for the area,” Eldreny said of the 302-unit Halo tower, a skyscraper sheathed in bluish glass on all but the uppermost floors, where work stopped last spring. But, he added, “the way it’s looking now, it’s ugly.”

Eldreny was not the only one concerned.

The unfinished building is the first of three Halo towers planned for the site, totaling 1,075 units, 20% of which will rent for below-market rates to people earning less than the surrounding region’s median income.

At 467 feet tall, including a permanent rooftop crane for maintenance, the Halo’s phase 1 tower is Newark’s tallest building, according to its developer, edging the 466-foot National Newark Building on Broad Street.

It’s yet another Newark project completed or planned that was designed by INOA Architecture, a Manhattan-based firm led by architect Murat Mutlu, whose curvaceous, often whimsical structures dot the globe from East Orange to Dubai.

Interior Renders Revealed as Newark’s Halo Development Back on Track

Quote:
One of the largest redevelopment efforts in the history of the Brick City is teasing what some of their spaces will look like and is in the home stretch of construction after getting bogged down last summer.

he first 38-story phase of Halo, an ambitious three-tower project from Acier Holdings and Hudson Meridian Construction, had topped out in February of last year and looked to add a modern touch to Newark’s skyline. Designed by INOA Architecture, Halo included high-end design features like a sky lounge, rooftop pools, and more inside compact spaces designed to maximize urban living.

The first phase of the project will include 297 units, but a lawsuit and financing issues caused work to cease at the Washington Street site last year. Construction company Dobco filed a complaint in Essex County Court against the developers of Halo, claiming “a series of safety concerns” regarding Halo that were impacting their nearby work at the Essex County Family Courthouse.

The tower above looks very stunning in Downtown Newark. Newark is my favorite city in NJ, simply because it’s just a more authentic city than JC. More ethnic communities such as the Ironbound, nice mansions within Forest Hill and Weequahic, and even decent communities outside of Newark such as East Orange and Bloomfield.
