But in reality I think most of these streets are already 30km/h at best considering most blocks in these neighbourhoods it's sometime even hard for more than one car to get by at a time.

They should make it 20km/h and anyone dumb enough to be going 50-60 can get an excessive speeding ticket

Yeah it would be pretty difficult and dangerous to navigate a lot of these areas faster than 30 km/h.

Along with countless other rules and laws there will be zero enforcement as well.

I often consider that a lot of traffic laws are there to give the justice system a means to prosecute you should you cause an accident. So rights of way, for example yielding at a stop sign, are usually not enforced and usually don't cause a problem. But if you fail to yield and an accident results, then you can be charged for a violation instead of it just being chalked up to "one of those things".

It's a local street bikeway. Lowering speeds on streets that are shared with bicycles is a good move, and even more so on local street bikeways that are within a couple of blocks of three schools.

Seems like they spent yesterday just removing the barriers they'll probably start the work on the joints/deck tonight. The barrier has been removed around the mid-point of the bridge so I guess they'll focus on that side first.

No kidding. I've been wondering the same thing. Putting in a bunch of flashing lights if an overheight load is detected does nothing.

A kilometre before would prevent oversize loads from using the roadway as they should (going around the overpass via the on/off ramps).

I assume you would have to over engineer it so it wouldn't break up and fly into other vehicles.

Even a big "STOP" sign projected onto a water curtain spanning the travel lanes, as described in this article, only has a 90% success rate. Hard to imagine a trucker ignoring it, but apparently 10% of them do...

That assumes they care. My guess it's a liability thing so the driver can't say they didn't know. Would be nice if ICBC could use that as a clause in their insurance though.

Before the Highway 1 widening they had one travelling Eastbound through Surrey and twice I saw a truck set it off and they went through anyways.

Someone setup a webcam so we can get 11Foot8 vibes!
