Two downtown high rises plus a grocery store would be a perfect addition. Add the potential build of the Spire in that area and 5th ave would be quite dense.

Apologies if this was posted earlier or elsewhere—I don’t think I saw it so thought I’d leave it here.

This is the public engagement report for the proposed National Urban Park centred around the river valley in and around Saskatoon. I remember doing the online survey this past summer. Overall, pleased to see strong levels of support from locals and a strong mandate for conservation. Hoping this continues full steam ahead and helps to raise the profile of our beautiful river valley and system of parks even more.

VIDO Level 4 Containment lab likely to be up and running in 2027, says CEO

By Lara Fominoff
CKOM
Jan 28, 2026

It won’t be long before the University of Saskatchewan will be home to just the second lab of its kind in Canada: a Level 4 bio-containment lab. The only other lab with that kind of capability is located in Winnipeg.

That’s just part of the overall goal of the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization’s (VIDO) goal of becoming Canada’s “Centre for Pandemic Research,” according to Volker Gerdts, director and CEO.

Why Saskatoon ranks high for families despite growing urban pressures

By Jon Perez
SaskToday.ca
Jan 28, 2026

SASKATOON — Even as Saskatoon grapples with the growing pains of a fast-expanding city, many residents say it continues to offer something increasingly rare in Canada: balance. Some newcomers and long-time residents living in the city say it allows them to maintain a balanced life, where small-city living and a close-knit community coexist despite the pressing problems and growing challenges the province’s largest urban hub is facing right now.

USask and City of Saskatoon researching housing landscape changes amid infrastructure evolution

By Lane Hoffart
CJWW Radio
Feb 5, 2026

A joint research project between USask and the City of Saskatoon is looking at how changes in the city’s infrastructure will effect the housing landscape.

Dr. Scott Bell, a professor in the Department of Geography and Planning at USask, says that he is interested in finding the housing capacity for neighbourhoods that are going to be along the new Link transit route.

“I’m interested in the capacity of the city of Saskatoon to support the growth that’s anticipated in some of our core neighbourhoods, for lack of a better term. The neighbourhoods that are covered by the bus rapid transit service that’s starting to be rolled out in the next year or two.”

Siemens plans Saskatoon expansion with 50 new tech hires

By Jon Perez
SaskToday.ca
Feb 10, 2026

SASKATOON — Amit Gupta is looking to expand Siemens-Electronics Design Automation’s footprint in the province by hiring information technology personnel, who will help meet the growing global demand for semiconductors and advanced chip design software, and position the city as Saskatchewan and the Prairie region’s tech hub.

Gupta, speaking at a recent Discovery Siemens event, said the company plans to add 50 new employees locally as part of its broader effort to meet rising demand across the semiconductor industry. The event was designed to raise awareness of Siemens’ work in Saskatoon and to connect with potential recruits from the local tech community, especially graduating students at the University of Saskatchewan.

Saskatoon city unveils strategic plan for next four years

By Keenan Sorokan
CTV News
February 11, 2026

The City of Saskatoon has released its strategic plan, which is meant to guide the city’s overall priorities from 2026 to 2029.

The plan unveiled to the city’s governance and priorities committee on Wednesday also showed a number of changes, additions and removals.

The plan is built around what the city calls “core pillars: advance city council priorities and build a high-performing organization.” Council priorities are grouped into 10 categories ranging from core services, transportation, downtown, and economic development.

The City of Saskatoon's Project Growth Concept Plan has been updated as of Feb 4, 2026. Here it is:

https://www.saskatoon.ca/sites/default/f...l-maps/projected_growth_concept_plan.pdf

The Saskatoon Freeway Alignment and proposed interchanges are shown on this map. I sure hope that the provincial government soon commits funding to make this project a reality. The Saskatoon CMA could be 500K by the mid 2030's, and we need to start acting with a greater sense of urgency at expanding our infrastructure to accommodate this rapid growth, in my opinion.

Somewhere I read that the initial proposal would be 34 and 16 stories.

Thanks!

It would be fantastic if the proposed 34 storey building exceeded 100 metres in height. Sure looks like it's possible by my rough calculations:

34 stories X 3 metres per storey = 102 metres

34 stories X 3.5 metres per storey = 119 metres

There is no real proposal though (yet) --- this is just a marketing document to try to sell the property.

Warman approves new minimum residential lot size

By TERRY PUGH
Clark's Crossing Gazette
Feb 25, 2026

An amendment to Warman’s zoning bylaw intended to support higher-density, small-lot residential development was adopted by Warman City Council at a meeting on Monday, February 23.

The amendment, which will allow reduced minimum lot frontage and lot area requirements, applies only to lands in the city which are zoned R2-T, and would not impact other residential zoning districts such as R1 (Residential-Single Detached), Residential Mixed (R2), Residential-Multiple Unit (R3) or Residential Manufactured Homes (R4).

In addition, the narrower lot sizes would only be implemented in “selected pockets” within the R2-T Residential District. It does not mean a wholesale change for the R2-T district.

Warman opts for addition to RCMP building in 10-year capital plan

By TERRY PUGH
Clark's Crossing Gazette
Feb 25, 2026

After several years of fruitless discussions with neighbouring municipalities and the RCMP regarding the possibility of constructing a regional RCMP building, Warman City Council has decided to renovate and enlarge the existing detachment facility in Warman.

The decision is contained in the City of Warman’s 10-year capital plan, a comprehensive financial roadmap laying out the municipality’s annual spending priorities through to 2036. Warman City Council voted to adopt the 10-year capital plan at a meeting on Monday, February 23.

An administration report to the February 23 meeting stated that the projected cost of the renovation and addition of the existing Warman RCMP detachment building is about $7 million. This amounts to a little less than half of the estimated $15.2 million price tag for a new building.

Martensville to annex land south of overpass

By KEVIN BERGER, Local Journalism Initiative
Clark's Crossing Gazette
Feb 26, 2026

The City of Martensville has initiated the process of annexing roughly six Crown-owned hectares of land on the west side of Centennial Drive South in a bid to support future boundary alignment, infrastructure planning and transportation co-ordination.

The proposed annexation was first discussed by City of Martensville councilors at the February 10 committee of the whole meeting.

It was then brought back a week later to the February 17 meeting where council unanimously passed a motion to initiate the boundary alteration process for four parcels of land located within the quarter-sections at NE 20-38-05-3 and SE 20-39-05-3.

There's so much on the go, and plenty of other projects in planning/approval phase that I thought I'd compile a list here for easier reference. It's easy to forget the individual projects as they don't have shovels in the ground, or they are from forum postings that are buried 15 pages ago. I'm sure there are plenty I'm missing so please feel free to add if you wish.

I gotta say, if we see a lot of these proposals move forward it's really going to change the feel of the core in a good way. It just reignites my desire to live in Nutana...

Downtown:
- The Spire - seems to be no updates in recent years. May be cancelled.
- DEED
- Central Library
- Great Western Brewery Expansion (recently completed)

College Drive:
1102 - currently framed, in progress https://pub-saskatoon.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=233270

North Prairie @ 1006 College Drive. Hopefully we'll see shovels in ground soon but honestly who knows.
https://www.saskatoon.ca/engage/1006-college-dr-421-clarence-ave-n

Broadway & area:
"The Wesley" - currently in progress
"Escala 2.0" - let's hope to see that start this year
Highpoint - would love to see new life brought to this.
555 Eastlake - no official start date yet

508 12th St - I believe they are waiting on an anchor tenant.
