Nice how Norquest park compliments Warehouse Park. Hopefully a wider sidewalk linking the two and maybe other potential green spaces that could serve as pathways ... like the alley north of Jasper between 5th and 6th Street to Beaverhills park.

City celebrates opening of downtown Edmonton’s newest park
November 4, 2025

Edmonton’s newest downtown park is ready to welcome Edmontonians. The Warehouse Park Project transformed gravel parking lots into a green space for park visitors to socialize, celebrate and recharge.

The media is invited to join Mayor Andrew Knack, City officials, and community and project partners to celebrate the official opening of this downtown-shaping park. Following the formal speaking program, there will be a ribbon-cutting photo opportunity and City officials available for media interviews.

Date: Friday, November 7
Time: 12:30 p.m.
Location: 10150 107 St NW, in front of the pavilion

So I went to check out the park and not gonna lie, I left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

There are many things I liked:
* The swings on the northern lights thingee
* The block wood tables and benches
* The playground
* The washroom pavilion and fire pits

However as I was walking through, I felt the city tried too hard to cram too many activity spaces in, resulting in most missing the mark. For example:

* The exercise area only has a few pull up bars.
* The basketball/skating rink area is very small, which will make it difficult for large groups of people to enjoy.
* The off-leash dog park is also quite small. I'm not even sure why they added one, considering Alex Decoteau Park is literally kitty corner away.
* There is no water feature, unless I missed it.

I also couldn't help but feel there is so much to vandalize. It's just a matter of time before everything is covered in graffiti.

I feel the city would have been much better off sticking with a simpler model like Paul Kane Park. A large water feature as the centrepiece, which could be converted to a really cool rink in the winter, keep the pavilion, and enlarge the play area.

I'm no city planner, just my opinions. However, I do hope I am wrong and the park turns out to be very successful!

This is just my personal opinion but I don't get why they felt the need to have the metal ribbon in the park. I'm a former Edmontonian and currently living in SF. Here, the parks were designed with the idea that it should feel like a brief escape from the city, which in this case feels particularly relevant given it's downtown. This "feature" feels like it has the opposite effect. Metal is such a weird choice for a park if it isn't facing upwards -- it makes things hotter when its hot (glare, heat radiation) and colder when its cold (heat sink, color palette).

Couldn't agree more with YEG-Urbanist, Paul Kane park is nice because of the tree wall and slightly narrower pavement. This could happen here once everything grows in, but I think the addition of trees around the park by future development will be key for filling in the gaps here.

Anyway, also agree with all the good things said here (seating is awesome) and better a park than a parking lot!

So at least 1,900 new units in that screenshot, ideally everything open and ready for occupancy within three years. Would be nice to see Maclab start on Phase 2 of the Parks and Autograph to get going on their former Shift site.
